    How incredibly sad it is that all this is completely gone: dismantled and cut into pieces: remelted and sold for scrap.

    I truly from the bottom of my heart, miss this ship, more than any other ship in the world.

      Jan-Olav, I can sympathize with you -- although you have surely walked her length much more than many of us. If I had $24M at the time of her sale I would have for sure purchased her! I know that general maintenance and the likes are expensive - but I also know that if she was saved I would have readily volunteered to offer my services at no cost to do whatever I could to keep her magnificent. It baffles me to think that we, as one people, can come together to aid causes when times of hardship come - but we could not save a revered peice of history.

      I purchased my home primarily because it retained all of the original woodworkings from an era gone by - and when people come to my home one of their first comments is about the beauty of the wood. Often with a statement like "you just don't see this in many homes anymore..." This is how I felt about the Norway and why I think it's a crime against humanity that it has been taken from us. You can redesign a new ship -- but it will never ever be the same. Even if you were to replicate every detail to the finest -- as you have said in many of your posts -- the atmosphere, the smell, the spirit and soul of that ship could never be replicated. It just can't.

      Robert Frost - "Nothing Gold Can Stay"

      "Nature's first green is gold,
      Her hardest hue to hold.
      Her early leaf's a flower;
      But only so an hour.
      Then leaf subsides to leaf,
      So Eden sank to grief,
      So dawn goes down to day
      Nothing gold can stay."

                              It is sometime before or around 1968 as that was the year many structures around the piers disappeared.

                                I agree with all of you, I miss the great lady...nothing like her and it's so sad that they can't build something like her again. If I had run the line, the outcome would have been much different. I would have found some way to keep her around so all could still enjoy her. It's just so unfair to know she's gone, just glad to know I got to sail her 3 times.
                                sigpicI will never forget the lovely grand SS NORWAY.
                                Past Cruises on her: August 22, 1992. June 4, 1994, April 7, 2002.
                                Nearly had our fourth cruise, it was set for November 7, 2003...
                                the boiler room disaster of May 4, 2003 took her out of service.
                                We ended up on the NORWEGIAN WIND, not the same as the SS NORWAY
