      in my freezer
      Not recommended.

At that temperature you'll kill all the good taste there are in a perfect aquavit, and all it will taste is pure and strong alcohol/spirits.
Aquavit should be served at room temperature (18-20°C) where all the background tastes of spices will surface.
Aquavit should be used like a great cognac, by the way....

But as they say, we are all different and individual taste can't be compared

        Captain,
Just noticed on the front of my bottles it has in red:

This aquavit has crossed the equater on the voyage of the
Royal Viking Sea during the period between January and April 1986

All the rest of the labels are the same. Pretty cool!!

Ok, so I took the bottle out of the freezer. It does seem a little smoother at room temp. Thanks for the advise. I think when chasing with a beer ( to keep up with the Bridge Officers) it is better cold.

            Hahahahaha...., I would guess so...

Have you tried the "norwegian drink" called 'The Depth Charge' ?

Take one big glass of beer and into that, submerge a shotglass of aquavit so that it sink to the bottom.
When you dring the beer, aquavit will "leak" out of the shotglass and the depth charge will be stronger and stronger the further down in the beerglass you come.

            Good Luck!

Akevit has a peculiar affect on some people. It leaves them with a clear head but weak knees. This affect is usually not noticed until you try to stand up.

I remember we used to count Aquavit shots like this:

One shot, two shots, three shots.... floor shots!

Ahh... so your label includes a note on the transport across the Equator? As you can see, my label doesn't have that annotation.

More passengers learning the acquired taste= more production!!

Is it still the measure of a "Real Viking" 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, full shot? I think that was a Reidulf Maalen tradition. Of course the "Real Vikings" would also drink the shots in reverse (full, 3/4, 1/2 1/4) and still stand.

Long, rainy weekend ahead....going out for some beer to try this new Norse drink. If I am still alive, and can remember, I will let you know what I think!

Maybe it is better with Norwegian beer! Well, we will still work on it!

The beer (with a depth charge in it), would taste somewhat strange...., but you know...., we are vikings!!!

Ok, Vikings, here's the Southern Girl report.

We use bourbon (are you listening, Sterkoder?).

Our "Depth Charge" is a shot of bourbon-glass and all- dropped into a beer (probably something cheap like Budweiser) but you don't sip it...you chug it down, and the glass is supposed to hit your teeth when your are finished.

Our "Boilermakers" are a shot of bourbon POURED into the mug and then topped off with beer. This is sipped, not chugged. The speed and size of the sipping is as the consumer wants.

I brought back some aquavit liqueur on the advice of the knowledgeable guy at the Vinmonopol...hmmm--must try tonight?????

I love Cpt. Maalen's measure of a "real Viking" --he certainly is on everyone's posts today, isn't he??

"One martini, two martini, three martini, Floor" I've heard....

And I love Dorothy Parker's famous poem--
“I like to have a martini
                              Two at the very most.
                              Three, I’m under the table
                              Four, I’m under the host.”

(I know, I know....I'm allowed on this forum merely for my entertainment value....)
