Two pictures that I took 24 years apart from the same spot in Bermuda, the Newstead Hotel. Top is the Royal Viking Sun departing Bermuda in April 1989, and the bottom is the same ship 24 years later departing as Prinsendam in May 2013

There is no doubt in my mind, she looked a whole lot better as the Royal Viking Sun.

              Jan Olav,
Unfortunately she is not being maintained as well as she was when she sailed as the SUN. I sailed on her 2 years ago and was disappointed in her condition, a friend who sailed on her recently mentioned his disappointment in her condition.

Wow, great comparative shots! I love the way RV Sun sailed in & out of ports dressed with flags. The 2013 shot shows the extent of butchery done to her stern by Holland America, made worse in late 2012 by extending the former Garden Cafe area aft to make a "Canelleto's" Italian restaurant, I believe. Such a shame. Heopfully HAL might sell her soon to a line that might better maintain her...

Re: Royal Viking Sun : Images, photos and stories.

Came across this 150 images gallery from a recent visit on board the Prinsendam....

                  http://oceanliner-pictures.com/galle...june-2013.html

Interesting to see that the RVSun model is still on board, and that some of the decorations have survived till this day (the vikiking ship in the lobby for example), but I wonder what happened to the Viking-ship decorations between the main mast and the midships pool?

Also... I really don't care for the BROWN painted decks....

One of my first real cruise ship experiences was on board the Royal Viking Sun... even though she is no longer sailing by that name, memories, good memories come flooding each time I see her: these were taken when she came to Trondheim on June 27th this year:

In the glow of the afternoon sun during her departure, I can still see her former name outlined in the steel plates on the bow:

Even though she is not a Royal Viking any longer, I still choose to place the images of the ship in this thread... once a Royal Viking, always a Royal Viking I guess:
