The Royal Viking Sun project name was Excelsior, and this below image was a pre-construction rendering of the brand new 760 passengers capacity ship.

Here are some more project images from the Excelsior project: the ship which became the Royal Viking Sun.

A big thank you is extended to Steinar Aronsen for sharing these with all of us.

Two final images of the projected ship which Mr. Aronsen has provided us.

In correspondence, he recalls the requirements for the new building as well:

                      - clipper bow
                      - funnel similar in design to original vessels
                      - all balcony suites
                      - one seating i spisesalen (special permissions had to be obtained)
                      - panorama lounge above the bridge

Fantastic information on the original Sun project. Note that the cabins plans above did not make it to the final ship as delivered.

The RV Sun's aft lounge - not a triumph of design unfortunately.

The aft lounge? I think this might be the forward Norway lounge. The only aft 'lounge' on the Sun was the dining room I think, and the cafe on the upper decks.

It is the midnight sun lounge above the aft dining room - it as used as the alternate show room for classical performances etc. It was very disconnected from the rest of the ship. Note all the windows around the walls.

I don't remember that room, but I do remember the name. You are probably correct, my memory is not what it used to be...
