Very dynamic look. She apparently is speeding up.

Anyone heard rumors that Vesterålen is to be refurbished/ rebuilt?

Nice! Wonderful image of the last surviving mid-generation ship, and the only ship of the current fleet built north of the Arcitc Circle.

Around 9pm on 21 June, and Vesterålen passes Trollfjord. Heading south towards Tromsø.

          Cheers,

I like these images of the Vesterålen, especially the second one.

On her sister ship, the NG Explorer, I think they opened the area around the forward mast to their passengers?

I wish they would do that on this ship as well.

I wonder if this ship will survive the next contract with the Norwegian government....

Let us hope so, i found her so ugly at the beginning, but since i travelled on her i completely changed my mind. She has such a unique character. Still ugly, but somehow very charming.

Which ships will continue along the coast depends on which company will provide the best offer for the next period.
There are several companies in addition to Hurtigruten ASA who wish to participate in this process.

I guess if Hurtigruten ASA win this new contract, they will carry on with the current fleet they have today for a period of time and maybe build some new ships.(Only speculation from my side)

A large company Torghatten ASA, who says they are interested, but only if the criteria says that new ships are being built.

Once in January 2018 we will know which companies are relevant to the new contract.

The ministry of transport says that by easter in 2018 it will be clear who has delivered the best offer for the next contract.
So time will show who wins this.

                          Awesome new shots, Azimut! ....

I know of a few "no-official" companies which are sniffing on the next Hurtigruten tender. it'll be really, really, really interesting to see who eventually end up winning one or more of the tenders!

Thank you pakarang for the comment.

Another night picture of "Vesterålen" inbound to Tromsø tonight.

I think it may start to get pretty boring with these night pictures from Tromsø....
So I think I take a little break with night shots for a while.

                              Repeating yes - boring no!
But perhaps it's more of a challenge to capture some new ships whenever they appear?
                          Working...
