Which ships will continue along the coast depends on which company will provide the best offer for the next period.
There are several companies in addition to Hurtigruten ASA who wish to participate in this process.

I guess if Hurtigruten ASA win this new contract, they will carry on with the current fleet they have today for a period of time and maybe build some new ships.(Only speculation from my side)

A large company Torghatten ASA, who says they are interested, but only if the criteria says that new ships are being built.

Once in January 2018 we will know which companies are relevant to the new contract.

The ministry of transport says that by easter in 2018 it will be clear who has delivered the best offer for the next contract.
So time will show who wins this.

      Awesome new shots, Azimut! ....

I know of a few "no-official" companies which are sniffing on the next Hurtigruten tender. it'll be really, really, really interesting to see who eventually end up winning one or more of the tenders!

Absolutely not boring - these are very welcome every night of the week!

Your shots takes me back to my younger years when Mary was my home, and when I could see these ships for myself twice every night as the ships arrived and departed from Rørvik.

When I see your images, so many great memories comes to mind - of the countless number of hours I was waiting for them EVERY night.

I didn't have a ny good digital camera back then, nor did I have a good film camera--- those are only memories in my mind. I'm really glad you share these images!

WAOW!!! Really nice again - it looks like it's either very windy or the ship is sailing at really high speed. The dynamics in the image is superb - certainly a HURTIGrute... (lit.: fast window).

Awesome image of the second oldest ship of Hurtigruten!

As Easter approaches, and as soon as our politicians stop talking about Facebook posts, we might even get to hear about the future of Hurtigruten soon.

Beautiful shot of the ONLY coastal steamer built north of the Arctic Circle.

              A true "Harstad-væring".

But, is she the only one in the whole 125 years of history?

I saw an image of Vesterålen a few days ago, and the first thing that struck me is that this has to be the first year she also has decoration lights from fore to aft... ?

It's fun to think about the fact that Vesterålen got so many more years in Hurtigruten compared to her two sisters. Vesterålen was a so-called mid-generation, but are already also a classic ship.

Back in the 80's, I loved this ship because she had the blue belt around, but Midnatsol was better because of her panorama lounge (until they all got rebuilt).

Bengt, I keep meaning to mention that I've specially enjoyed looking at all the Christmas stars on the Hurtigruten ships in your photos this year. It never completely struck me before that there are such different designs - Trollfjord's is even a tree plus star! I liked the big chunky snowflake design on Spitsbergen too.

Nice picture (as also the other new additions) ! It took me a while to identify the various deck areas. They look so different with their illumination! Nice to watch out for your favourite place out on deck.

                          Thank you for the comment,Ralf

I didn't feel as much love for this generation of ships while compared to the others, in the past, but now, I kind of like VR more and more...

I don't care too much for the blue light midships, but OK, most ships do have them for some reason.

The panorama lounge looks really inviting with all lights illuminated.

I have heard that the ship will enter a massive upgrade some time soon... it'll be really exciting what she'll look like when she comes back after that refit. I don't think they'll do too much exterior alterations... (?)
