Actually Honningsvåg and Hammerfest and Trondheim (and maybe others) also offer opportunities of shooting the ships at dock from afar, although some of them require a 10-20 min walk in order to get there...

This Christmas only North-Norway will have enough snow for the "Christmassy feeling", the west and south/east will be devoid of snow.

Last night, December 29th 2008, Lofoten came by Rorvik on her southbound journey to Bergen. The weather offered light rain, a few bursts of wind and a bunch of people taking pictures, mostly passengers from the two ships. Here is my images.

Then, it was time for Lofoten to pull up her port anchor and set sail towards Folla and Trondheim.

And this morning, she was safely tied up in Trondheim:

Actually, it's quite a day in Trondheim today: Nordstjernen and Lofoten in port:

Lofoten arriving at Rorvik on January 2nd 2009 - her first northbound visit this year: may she have a safe and successful new year added to her already long service years:

A little step back in time for those nostalgic of us. I'm not sure who is the photographer behind this image and when it was taken but without any doubt, it was taken in Trondheim where the Hurtigruten before docked.

The ships are as you can see Lofoten and Håkon Jarl.

I would think the image was taken some time between January 1981 and January 1983 when she (as in Håkon Jarl) sailed as an ODS ship. I'm also guessing an event such as for example May 17th in 1981 or 1982.

...so fascinating pictures, which keep me convinced it would be worth to return the old ships to Hurtigruten, where possible.
