Hei Mr "Sea Otter" ,
Are you Mr Horsevik ? Greetings !
Just saw your photos of the 2 Hurtigrutes in Trollfjord at the same time ! Looks like the pictures were taken on a private boat within the fjord itself.
Lofoten always followed Spitsbergen in June-July 2016 with Spitsbergen going into Trollfjord first followed by Lofoten ( hope I'm right )
Pictures showed Lofoten turning round with Spitsbergen in front, just exit-ing the fjord.
Was this on or before Jul 10 2016 ? I have uploaded a picture on Photobucket , of the 2 Hurtigrutes in Trollfjord on 10 Jul 2016. This was
a series of shots using the webcamera on-board Lofoten, tracking Spitsbergen during Spitsbergen maiden-sailing on the BGO-KKN-BGO route.
I think that it is rare to observe two boats from Hurtigruten simultaneosly withi Trollfjord.
This shot was taken on 10Jul2016 at 17:15 from Lofoten's webcamera, (captured from the net.)
Great pictures and a very interesting size comparison. I was not aware that Spitsbergen is such small. Veery sympatic. Could be interesting to have a trip on her before she is changing in the explorer business with very expensive cruises.
It's quite amazing to think about Lofoten now being the last surviving "old" generation ship in service, though I fear for her future when new ships are on order. I haven't paid much attention to Hurtirguten lately, so I'm not sure if one of the 4 newbuildings are thought to replace her.
She has been a strong ship and she has quite a following I know... in the summer months, she is rumored to be fully booked for the most part.
As far as we know now, the new ships shall do the explorer business. The schedule shows her until March 2018.
Midnatsol and Spitsbergen are replacing themselves in the winter/summer schedule 2016/2017/2018.
I believe, when MS Roald Amundsen is starting, she won't change in the coastal route. She will operate like a cruise ship.
But what will happen, if all four new ships will be ready and the Explorer business is not growing fast enough?
Good old MS Lofoten is hanging by a thread..
Who could have imagined that Kristiansund would need a hurricane to become the turn aorund port for a change. I saw her in Trondheim and earlier this morning, they said on the local radio station she would be here until 2 in the afternoon. But then again, at around one, she had already sailed away. I think it is strange and unfortunate to announce her departure delayed till 2 PM and then sail earlier anyway. The message on the radio had been given them by the Communications Director at Hurtigruten.
