This was a very pleasant surprise: the restoration of Lofoten back to her "original" decor and look.... and they are doing it all the way, by reintroducing the style of uniforms they had back then!

If you go all the way, you will get a completely sell-able and very unique experience. I bet the ship will be full on many of it's annual sailings!

Look forward to seeing her when southbound 1. March in Kristiansund (if I have time).
I mean, where else can we see a original boat from 1964 with all it's original (new made) interior, uniforms from the time periode and also china, table cloths, serving from that periode and more.
Everything would've been perfect, hadn't it been for the funnel painting and logo ;-)

I will be testing out the "new" Lofoten in October with a back to back round voyage. I chose October for a number of reasons - cheaper than earlier, reasonably cold, (that is important) and enough daylight to see things for a longer time of day. As my delightful Swedish travel agent said with feeling: "26 days!! I am SO envious!) She had previously gone sailing in a yacht with her parents somewhere south of Kristiansund and loved every minute,

            Horn music?
You mean the unmistakable roar of Lofoten compared with the brassy squawks of the other ships?
She really shows 'em who's the veteran boss.
But aren't you a wee bit far away at Al?

Ralf - I'd like a few teasers, despite the fact it is summer (I love Norway's cold, snow and ice) Sorry I did not comment before, I missed it.

This will make it my 4th and 5th trip on Lofoten. Somebody said that is obsessive; maybe, but who's to judge?
Ralf, any photos would be appreciated. When I get back I will try (the word is try) to upload from Flickr or similar.....
if I lived in England, only 2 hours away, I'd go more often!

Looking on Trondheim webcam this morning and Lofoten has lost the ugly H and is back to being a ‘blå skip’ with VDS blue band.
When she returned to route after refit she still had the Hurtigrute logo.
Any chance of you photographers out there getting a picture?

Ah, I agree with the blue band being back. The 'H' was just too much. She looks more elegant now.

I read the review of the Lofoten in the April Ships monthly (had to order it in, it does not exist in Canberra) and found it quite well written.
Especially the bit at the end where her passengers checked out the other Hurtigruten ship in port and come back not wanting to go near the big ships. I found this on my three voyages as well - there is a great sense of personal preference amongst most of the pax on Lofoten.
I am just hoping they have not ruined many of her attractive features (such as the wood panelling in various areas).

Hi folks, a long time since i posted any pictures here, but this sunday 5. marts i was onboard Lofoten.
The day before they had just departed from Bergen with their new concept Classic Ship, and i was exited to see the modifications they had made to her.
              First the funnel.

              Looks great doesnt it?
Tomorrow i will display som more if the forum works that is.

                Hi HH,

Glad to read that you found Lofoten's facelift works well. Unfortunately the attachments did not open, (for me, anyway)
Am looking forward to the October double voyage but still a long time to wait.....

Welcome back Helge. Looks like you have been away too long and forgotten that attachments directly from your computer doesn't work here on CVF.
You have to go via an external storage source, such as Photobucket, Flicker etc. Looking forward to see Lofoten in her new "old" makeover.

Thinking of it I haven`t posted pictures since the new forum was launched, so i am a bit rusty. Shame on me for that.. A lot of new ways of doing things. As before i upload my Pictures from my photobucket account, but i have struggled a lot With copying the URL adress.. Now i was finally able to get the Pictures uploaded but why are they so small?? When i try to copy IMG i have the Message that the file is too big,so i copy IMG thumb.

If you have the latest version of Photobucket all you have to do is clicking on the box after IMG below the thumbnail. That will highlight the URL Then you right click and copy. Now go to CVF and past the URL into the place you want the picture to appear.
Alternatively; click on the thumbnail picture and you get a larger version. On the right you'll get an IMG box. Just click on that and it automatically copy.

It doesn't matter if your picture is high definition, it will automatically be downsized to what the forum can take.

Thanks for the tips, ombugge. I might try and upload a few, needed some hints on how to do it. I am not technically savvy on anything very new with regard to computers.

I tried to downsize the pics to get them thru but i had to downsize to 400 to make them pass. Why? I thought 1024 was the limit?

Anyways , The cups and plates in the cafeteria was now with VDS-logo and a new menu and wine chart had been made.
The benches was brand new with leather.

Very nice! Even if I have seen other pictures on the net from the "oldernized" Lofoten, this forum kind of brings an extra touch to it.

Looks good Helge! So delighted you sorted out how to post the photos. Yours are the first ones of the new-old Lofoten that I have had time to really look at.

Thanks Linray and Tommi, i finally managed to get the pics uploaded. I pasted the IMG-code the wrong place.
Ombugge: Thanks for helping me out! I now realised that i should paste the copied IMG-adress from Photobucket the same place that I write.

New deck-boards have been laid on the bridge wings both sides, and it looked like exellent work.

A pity that they cover it with ugly rubber mats, but i guess that security is more important.

Fishing lines( in Norwegian: Juksa) that are going to be used by the passengers, another activity new within the Classic ship concept.

New Exhaust pipes inside the funnel.

Wonderful photos, Helge. I like the funnel colours and posh menu but I do not like the bench seats in the cafe. Means one cannot get out without disturbing the other - if there is another, which is frequent. May have to find another place to write.

Ombugge, I have a lot of opposition from my better half about playing around in the cloud. so don't hold your breath!!

Lofoten enjoying a Finnmarken summer, 25th June this year. Cloud down to deck, about 6C. Wonderful!!

Plenty of 'table reservation' going on in the saloon - not very welcoming looks from some of the clientelle for the 'coffee club' coming on board to enjoy lunch. The crew were wonderful and very welcoming though.

Plenty of wonderful reminders of the past.

Interesting flag lurking down there ...

Good use of a deckchair whilst angle-grinding rust off something - not many takers for the chairs in this weather!

Some considerable mountaineering was necessary to join and leave the ship - not much tide here, think the rain had filled the fjord up a bit!

                  Cheers,

                  Mark.
