I think I saw you Cecilia! Gorgeous weather yesterday, quiet crossing of the Vestfjord with the sunset, and Northern Lights! Today it's raining but the colors of fall are here as promised.

Not so sunny today in Honningsvåg.

Nah - looks mucky on the panorama too:

Yes, we had wonderful weather this morning and it clouded up as we approached Honningsvag. Now it's actually raining! But we had a clear night with plenty (but faint) Northern Lights.
I'm really sad, the two yellow comfy chairs (with the high back) in the upstairs lounge are gone

Lovely picture Bengt! You have mastered the light perfectly.
I'm probably one of the silhouette on deck 5 at the rear.

Wonderful photo, Bengt. Both the ship and Tromso are favourites of mine. (Bergen comes a close second)

So beautiful, Bengt. I knew Sarnia would be thrilled to see your photo of her voyage on Lofoten the way one doesn'’t experience it when actually aboard.

(oops I seem to have sent a post when it was meant to be a comment - again!)

Thank you all for the comments

I wish you a pleasent trip south Sarnia

The weather has been wonderful the last days
Today we had 17 degrees and it felt like a nice summer day.
Even though the calender shows october 5

The weather is indeed absolutely lovely since yesterday (crossing of the Vesteraalen and Lofoten). The deck 5 lounge armchairs are back! They have been re-upholstered in the same red fabric as the other chairs (I will post pictures when I'm back).
On a more serious note, the loading crane, which have been showing troubles in the last few days, is broken for good since Svolvaer. All the cargo was unloaded there by a crane brought on the quay, and we are now sailing cargo-less, which is sad. I don't like seeing nothing happening at the port of calls. MS Lofoten is at the moment mostly a touristic ship (and some local passengers of course) and this doesn't feel quite right. Hopefully they will be able to fix it soon (maybe in Bergen? But getting spare parts for this crane must be quite a hassle).

Another glorious day it seems... What a beautiful light in this capture! Unfortunately my voyage is already over, I took the train this morning from Trondheim to Oslo.

I decided this time to take the Sea Eagle safari excursion, not so much for the sea eagle (I'm not really keen on feeding the birds for tourists) but because I really wanted an opportunity to take pictures of Lofoten sailing (and hopefully of her sailing in the Trollfjord). It turned out to be quite successful, and during the excursion I had 3 opportunities to see the ship sailing and take picture. The first opportunity was when we boarded the excursion boat, at the end of Raftsundet. As everybody was on one side of the boat taking pictures of the bird, I was on the other side watching Lofoten sailing graciously in this gorgeous environment.

Opportunities 2 and 3 are coming later!

Look! I bet this would be a successful extra tour: Photosafari of MS Lofoten. Catch her from the outside in a spectacular passage! Sometimes things can be so easy!!
            Very good point, Sophie.

I would most definitely sign up for that tour! (in a way, I did with this one!)

I love those photos of my favourite ship in the Raftsundet. The fourth one makes her look so old (well, she is) and grey. Thanks Sarnia.
I have been having problems accessing the site and finally after three attempts over some days, all seems OK again.

                Thank you for your comments!

Opportunity #2 presented itself as the excursion boat was making its way down the Trollfjord (it was actually my first time on the Trollfjord and even on such a small boat the entrance and the vertical cliffs are quite impressive). After we turned around and sailed towards the entrance, I was looking for MS Lofoten and suddenly, she appeared behind a rock.

And then she passed us and continued her way towards the end of the fjord and I got my money's worth of shots of MS Lofoten in the Trollfjord! (although the light was not ideal as the sun was setting behind the mountains, so very spectacular in reality but tough to handle for the camera). This really was a fun and unique moment.

And then she was gone her way, and us sailing away. But as I said, I had another picture opportunity, a bit later in the day.

Wonderful photos! One of the reasons we did that excursion in July, to get photos of MS Nordnorge!

Marvellous, Sarnia! Seeing the photos of Lofoten appearing behind the rocks is one of those "so emotional it’s amazing you managed to hold your camera steady" kind of moments!

The view from close to her stern as she heads determinedly up the fjord has more sense of motion than any video would. Then seeing her against the surround of mountains, and subsequently seeming so small in the distance...

Clearly a "must-do", and as a bonus a persuasive example of Ralf's skills as excursion brochure author!

Thank you Seagull! As it was my first opportunity (in 5 trips) to enter the Trollfjord I debated whether it would be better to actually be on board during this, or to be outside taking pictures. I don't regret my choice (and my travel companion remained on board so I have some second-hand experience - and some pictures, which I will post sometimes later - of what it's like.
Maybe next time, but then maybe not, because there definitely will be a next time, but it's likely that it will be in winter again. Autumn colors were amazing, but we missed the snow and the winter lights.
I have a few more pictures to post but I'm having trouble uploading them so maybe a little later.

                    Well done!

Another very nice feature of this excursion was that we sailed to Svolvaer through a maze of rocks and islands (very nice ride!) and then entered Svolvaer harbor by going under the Svinoya bridge. And we arrived in port 5 minutes before the official arrival time of MS Lofoten (18.30) so I rushed out of the boat and run around the harbor to have a view of MS Lofoten when she would enter Svolvaer. I should have taken my time, because the ship was actually 15 minutes late, and it was getting dark. So I had to push the ISO a bit (it shows) but here was my third opportunity of the day to catch her at sea. And I'm really glad I caught her with the fisherman's wife statue, which is a bit of a good luck charm for me.

                  Mission acomplished!

Utter magic! The perfect place and time to photograph the ship looking her cosiest, the mountains, the moon, and the fisherman's wife who's a 'special friend' of mine too

Just the perfect timing regarding the light, there was just enough to lit up the sides of the ship when arriving to Svolvaer. Very nice indeed.
