I expect it will take me MUCH longer than that Ralf! – I mean for a proper write-up in “magazine mode” – actually I am not guaranteed to even finish it by the time of my big Greenland trip (only about 5 weeks away)!!!!

Plan of action/inaction: I’m just reading what you’ve all been posting and answering individual posts and messages at the moment. Haven’t even seen the photos I’ve taken yet! Then there are some things that can’t wait so you get a preview (Clue: could appear in a Crystal thread or under Copenhagen! ). Then there may be a whole lot more under Crystal Symphony as that would be mostly photos with minimal text, and then a separate thread for the big whole-trip write-up. And that still leaves lots of HSC’s, Single Incredible Maritime Photos, even Cruise ships in Danish waters and more . . .

Looking at this thread, with several pics taken by Asimut showing Lofoten south bound for Tromsoe, you can see how the light is changing with the changing seasons.

On a pics taken around mid summer she arrives in broad daylight. In the last pic it is already dark, with a bit of light in the sky still. Another few weeks and it will be pitch dark when she passes by Asimut's house. *

            Sorry, OT again:
On 21st. Sept. the sun's declination will be 0 degr. (Equinox), which means that the length of day and night will be the same all over the world. It also means sunset at the North Pole and sunrise at the South Pole. That should be worthy of a celebration, like "X-mas" and "St.Hans", should it not?

Here in Singapore there is no noticeable change in the length of day and night, since S'pore is at Lat. 1,5 degr. North. (The difference is only about 20 min. through the year)
In a month or so we will have the sun directly overhead (in Zenith) here. That doesn't make for much shadows at noon.

*) I assume that she is passing by at about the same time in all the pics?

That is correct.. more or less at the same time throughout the year.

I also remember the minute difference through the seasons also after living in Thailand for a high number of years... probably something like Singapore for sure: not much difference.

MS Lofoten - ruteendring 21.09.2009 - utsatt avgang Bergen.

Good luck, i hope everything goes well and as planned.

"Lofoten" was southbound from Kristiansund this Sunday afternoon. Here's the famous J-O View

                  A beauty

And the size of offshore vessels today compared to only 10 years back, is just impressive. Look at the size of "Skandi Acergy" compared to our little "Lofoten". (As the hurtigrute is 20-30 meters closer in the picture, the difference in size are even greater)
"IF GOD COULD MAKE ANGELS...., WHY IN HELL MAKE MAN?"

Fascinating... really fascinating seeing the Lofoten passing that Acergy ship! The difference in size is quite significant!

I remember when I was young, Lofoten was a huge ship!

It strikes me each and every time I see an image of the veterans, who could have known 10-20 years ago that these ships would still be in full service...

Today I say goodbye for the next few days.
On 13.10.2009 we start in Bergen on board the MS Lofoten our trip via Kirkenes to Bergen. Maybe I can meet the one or other medlem of CV Forum along the Norwegian coast.
When I'm back, I'll say hello again with photos of our shipping trip.

                        Best regards Doris
