Same jealousy, and same thank you!
The last picture in particular is very fascinating for me, all these levers and dials... And it looks so clean, at the same time it does look from another time. Perfect!

At what point did they do the machine room visit?
          They did not

I just asked - to be more specific I asked to visit the bridge and my dinner companions asked to visit the engine and we went together. At one point after dinner we were invited (incognito, with a message "room 302 and 2** please proceed to the reception ...", not saying why ) The tour leader kindly took us there and I think he was quite pleased to show it to us. We were too!

I could have taken more photos but my ears are quite sensitive, even with ear plugs, that I had my hands covering my ears all the way !

          Here are two more:

I agree it is so clean, and yes Sarnia, I quite liked the "handles" too (you notice my non-technical wording )!

For those interested, here are the technical specifications that were printed and given to us:

            MS Lofoten
Built by A/S Akers Mek. Shipyard, Oslo, Norway. Build No. 547
            Delivered 27th Februrary 1964

The main propulsion machinery consists of a 7-cylinder, single-acting, direct changeable cross-head engine. The Danish-designed Burmeister & Wein engine was built on license at Akers Mek. Shipyard in Oslo. The two-stroke engine uses pressure-nozzles and 2 gas-operated turbochargers. The engine produces 3675 HP and turns 200 revolutions per minute.

            Cylinder diameter: 420mm
            Stroke height: 900mm
            Middle pressurer: 9,5kp/cm2

The engine relies on an adjustable pitch propeller system (LIAAEN) controlled directly from the bridge.

User capacity to the main engine is about 80m3 MSD, totally app. 100m3 incl. boiler and auxiliary engines.
Bunker capacity to the auxiliary engines is approximately 40m3 gasoil.
Use of oil to the main engine is around 350 liters per hour.

Auxiliary machinery consists of 2 Bergen Diesels, each one producing 270 HP (90 HP per cylinder). These Norwegian engines were built in Bergen and one Volvo Penta engine.

Each of the Bergen Diesels has a generator which produces 230 KVA, 600 RPM, 50HZ. The Volva penta has a generator which produces 640 KVA, 1500 RPM, 50HZ.

                Nice additions Patric H.

No worries Bengt, soon you'll have a lot of light up there.
By the way, what's the temperature in the air and in the sea this time of year?

I'm suddenly having doubts : is it possible to do laundry on board MS Lofoten?
I thought there was a laundry room, but I can't find it on the deck plan... I didn't have use for it on my previous trips so I didn't actually look for it, but this time I'm trying to pack a lighter suitcase and I was hoping to do laundry at some point.
                  If I can't, I'll just go dirty !

You won't need to go dirty!

There's a washing machine & dryer on Deck B in the port quarter. I've seen a photo of it recently together with a report that is now usable by passengers - previously (2010) you had to arrange with a crew member to do your washing!
