    Very clever photography aG. You had to stand in just the right place and click at just the right moment.

    Top work!

      It is such a good feeling to meet a forum friend in a port during a Hurtigruten trip. You feel so honoured to be part of the thing! That was a great idea, arcticGateway!

          Re: ::: Lofoten :::

          I think I should hurry to post some pictures of my March 2012 trip before Yves comes back with his own pictures!

          The full story is on my blog (from here : http://voyageterremer.blogspot.fr/2012/03/bergen.html , with text in English) but I will post here some pictures of the ship, some of which are not on the blog. I realised while sorting out my pictures that I haven't taken a lot of photos of the ship herself, something I will have to correct during my next trip (departure Feb. 8).

          However I was so happy to meet her again on March 3rd, after a (magnificent) train trip between Oslo and Bergen (is there a particular thread for this train trip?). I felt almost as excited as the first time.

          And the moment I had been waiting for for many months : the departure!

            March 4th. Arriving at Alesund, with a rather dramatic sky.

            And the most photographed point of view of the trip, at the summit of Mount Askla, but with a twist. Of course, MS Lofoten on the far right, but also, on the left, Boudicca coming into town, with our own Gaelsail on board.

            Leaving Alesund, with a returning passenger which seemed to know the right spots :

            There were about 100 passengers on board for Bergen-Kirkenes, more than half of which were returning passengers (some of them 10- or 12-times returnee! ).

            And while I was on my own favorite spot (on the bride's aisle) I took a picture of a relaxed captain...

              March 5th.
              In and out of Trondheim, with a really nice weather. Watching the loading and unloading of cargo is something I can't get tired of, be it from the groud as here, or from the bridge's aisle again, or from the panoramic lounge as previously mentioned.

              A bit later in the day, still good weather and good light to allow us to go through Stoksund. Very impressive passage through the rocks, under the bridge, sharp turn to the left...

                Later on, of course, the Kjeunskjaer lighthouse (I spell the names from memory so I apologize if I'm mistaken, and don't hesitate to correct me if they are wrong).

                And a look to a piece of old machinery inside the bridge (I don't think it's really used anymore!)

                  Re: ::: Lofoten :::

                  March 6th. Today is the day of the Arctic Circle's crossing, which of course is celebrated as deserved. The winners of the "when will we cross the line" contest are a French couple (our dinner companions, actually). He came relunctantly on this trip which was wanted by his wife for her 50th birthday. They compromised by doing only the Bergen/Kirkenes leg. By the second day, he was deeply deeply sorry that he hadn't booked the round trip. They will be back.

                  I was baptized - again - because it was the only way the tour leader would hand out the certificates (and I've become quite attached to those certificates, although of course they are cheesy and touristicky and whatnot, but they mean so much more to me than a piece of paper. The Arctic Circle, mind you! It's a place of legend for us "southern people" )

                  Incidentally, the tour leader was the same (save a few more pounds on the stomach) whom we had during our first trip.

                  Not many more pictures altogether from that day, since the weather became quite bad. I know this is not a picture of the ship, but just an exception to share my vision of Landego Fyr in a snow shower.

                  I have posted previously some pictures from our call at Stamsund later that night (post #589 of this discussion)

                    March 7th. A beautiful day today!
                    This is a point of view that I quite like, as you can tell... (this one, and the one from the aisle overlooking the bow... Same as everybody, I guess).

                    Call at Finnsnes (I remembered that the quay was made in wood, am I wrong? Now it's concrete). Call at Tromsø.

                      And in the evening, finally! The dancing lights! We have been partially lucky with the Northern Lights during this trip, but a lot of the time the sky was cloudy. And I hadn't done my homework properly : the moon was full right when we were in the North... But still, that night was quite special.

                      (this is all for the moment! ).

                            Oh Sarnia, I’ve been enjoying “Terre&Mer” as you know, and I’m so happy to see you are treating us to some of your wonderful photos here also. This selection is special to me not only for the ship but also the changes in the weather, from those dramatic skies at Ålesund, so blue at Stocksund …and then the snow at Landego Fyr. Magical!
