    Re: ::: Lofoten :::

    Here is "Lofoten" on north again, 11 days since last time but now it is completely dark outside.
    With some higher ISO, I got this picture tonight.

    Best wishes from

      It's very interesting to see how much the light has changed in just 11 days.
      That rainy picture is just fantastic.

        Re: ::: Lofoten :::

        It’s done !
        I booked my next trip on the Coastal Line from Bergen 31 october to Kirkenes 6 November.
        It will be a special voyage for me since I never went to Scandinavia at this period of the year. Hope it will not be too late to take advantage of beautiful autumn colors, something I dream about since a long time without having had time to do it.
        Special too because I will sail aboard MS LOFOTEN.I do not avoid my pleasure to navigate on new and mid-generation vessel s but clearly LOFOTEN and NORDSTJERNEN are the soul of this route. For the last one I am out of time and I didn’t want to miss Lofoten of whom I dread that days are counted as a regular working boat.
        In another hand, Françoise my sweet darling , decreed that these kind of boat and season are not her cup of tea in the high latitudes. Nevertheless I promised to carry her suitcase and not to smoke before lunchtime. In vain .
        I was very sad but since I shall be by myself I choose an inside cabin (I 20X) after reading Ralf and Martin’s comments. Smell the machine oil, ear the motor life, and feel the movements of the boat… it’s to be near to Heaven, no?
        Before I embark, if the old seadogs of CVF have recommendations or advice about boat, weather or anything else, even informations about art-works to discover during this week, I thank them for it in advance.
        YVES

          Re: ::: Lofoten :::

          Dear Yves !

          What a delight to log into CVF and find this post in the Lofoten thread. A voyage in november is different compare with a warm summer-cruise. A voyage with old LOFOTEN is different compare with a cruis aboard one of the new ones. And finally,,,,,,, a voyage by yourself is different compare with a cruise together with a sweet darling.

          But there are pros and cons with almost EVERYTHING.

          I hope and pray that you will find a november-voyage very interesting. If you are lucky, you will have the last rest of the autumn-colors in the beginning. And maybee you will get the first touch of winter further north. Still enough light to see the beautiful nature. But also so be able to see all the lights-aspects of the northern darkness. This year the northern light is quite activ. So you may also see a lot of this if the weather is on your side. And you will certanly smell the ship-oil and feel the ship-vibrations for a long time.........

          The first week of november is exact the same time, Seagull, Ralf and Tommi had their amazing autumn-cruise last year. And I was lucky to join them for one day. I have noticed what day you will appear in Bodø. And I will do my best to meet up. My plans for that week-end is not ready yet. But if I am lucky, I will maybe be able to join you the few morning-hours from Ørnes to Bodø. It woul be an honour to meet you. But I will let you know......

            Indeed, some 27 years later I can still feel Harald Jarl's periodic shimmy as she ploughed her way south from Honningsvåg to Svolvær. Her characteristic was to roll very quietly to port but to vibrate strongly when rolled to starboard. I wonder if Lofoten does the same?

                  VERY GOOD, Clipper

                  You see.....the only phrase I know on French is : "Je t`aime, fille douce"

                  So if the conversation is going on French, it might be an absurd conversation

                  Aboard a hurtigrute language is NEVER a problem. Everyone understand each other PERFECT. Even if we don`t understand a word

                    Re: ::: Lofoten :::

                    Dear Ives, it is a pity, that Francoise won't join you. But that is HER problem and it could well be possible, that you will repeat the travel with her one day. After your reports it will be hard for her to resist. To my surprise the ride at this time of the year is not as winterly as i expected, there is still a lot of daylight, but you can read about it in our report about the Nordnorge trip last year. The cabins 20x are fine, because there is some distance to the machine, which can be really disturbing through the night and the central position reduces the movements of the ship. I am very sure, that this trip will be great. There are very few excursions offered at that time of the year, me personally would not recommend a single one. There is so much to see on and around the working ship, much more as on the others. Please keep in mind, that a traditional ship is an outside ship, so warm and waterproofed clothes are a must. The nicest places are on the bridge wings, with perfect view inside the bridge, you will alternate on the particular lee-side or at the roofed place in the back of this deck. The places in the panorama lounge are limited and have their habitués - but that depends of course on the number of roundtrip guests, which can be only a few at this time. I am not sure, how good your knowledge about the coast and the towns and harbours is, so maybe it is better to ask some specific questions to get detailed information? You know, here are so much natives and they can recommend such a lot of interesting places. Wow, that will be a great trip! A man, all kinds of weather and a traditional ship. That will be heaven!

                      Dear Ralf
                      Thank you for your kind answer.
                      I know Norway since a long time.In summers of 1975, 76 and 79 I hitch hiked all over Scandinavia getting Costal Line twice in the North as a bus but I can’t remember which boats it was (Lofoten looks like anyway or kong Olav why not?).Then in 1981 when I met Françoise I initiate her to the fjord country between Trondheim and Bergen.She loved it…and me I guess!
                      Last year in 2011 we returned to Norway aboard Trollfjord in april-may and Nordkapp for Xmas.
                      But November and Lofoten will be new for me.
                      Of course I read yet your posts about trip with Cecilia,Tommi and Martin on Nordnorge and I feel it was great to share such an experience when we have a common passion.
                      Thank’s for your advices about cabins,bridge wings and useful clothes.They are important.As says a novelist friend of mine:*«*dreams must be prepared*»

                        But I just wanted to give you a teaser, Yves.......... what kinf of light you might see in november. Tonight I was out playing with my camera. I was too late to see the soutboud hurtigrute. But the northern light was amazing. This is october.......It might be even stronger in november.......

                          Thank you so much Martin for these amazing northern lights.I had been frustrated last Xmas in my northbound aboard Nordkapp since I saw only a little one almost uncolored and tiny.
                          Did you shot this pic. from the harbour of Bodo?

                            Not exactly from the harbour of Bodø. This is from where I live, about 10-11 km north of the harbour. In the summertime there are a lot of people here. But in the late autumn and winter, it feels like I am living in the wilderness. And my only visitors are moose and fox. But even if the midnightsun is gone, the view is perfect out to the island Landegode and Lofoten.

                                We're possibly in Tromsø together or will pass just north of there.
