I took my first Hurtigruten trip on April 2006 on board the MS Lofoten, and I fell in love. I fell in love with the journey, but I also fell in love with the ship. So I'm going back for a Bergen/Kirkenes/Svolvaer trip that leaves Bergen on March 3rd (just over a week from now! I'm so excited).

I have many pictures of her taken during that first trip, which I'll be happy to post here if it is OK?

Here is a picture of the first time I saw her in Bergen. It was love at first sight!

Pictures of just about ANYTHING is welcome here, but pictures of Lofoten is MORE than welcome. Go ahead, post!!

      Re: ::: Lofoten :::

Since there are already so many great pictures of her from the outside in this thread, I will post mainly pictures taken from the inside while sailing (or some views from the quay, hopefully with a different point of view).

This one was taken on our first evening after leaving Bergen. In French we call that time of the day "the blue hour". I was amazed to see that in Norway, at this season, the blue hour actually lasts for hours! (even for the whole night when we arrived in the north). The light is so delicate, it's like a dream.

These were taken leaving Geirangerfjord (it was the first trip of the season going to Geiranger) and arriving in Ålesund.

This is one of the best outside spot for me : sheltered from the wind and the rain, and with an open view to the landscape behind the ship (that is, if you actually manage to keep your eyes open! )
(I actually don't know the people in this picture, so if you think it is better not to post it, just let me know).

        A classic view, in Molde.

        And in Ørnes

An hour before, we had crossed path with the MS Finnmarken

And in the evening, a rather bumpy ride to the Lofoten islands:

We really enjoyed the feeling of being on board a working ship. At every stop it was amazing to see how the captain would manage to get to the dock (and leave the dock), and to watch cargo being loaded and unloaded.

Oh Sarnia, I enjoyed your photos so much. Just looking at the one at the end of post #558 is to experience the Vestfjord in such seas!!!!

Somehow I keep coming back to #559. I like that image with the person looking down and the new sea-green ropes, now arrived on the quay at Finnsnes (we saw them on the fore deck on an earlier photo!). #561/1 is also for me a special favourite, with the lifeboat details in perfect focus and beyond someone working.

And I’m absolutely delighted to hear you will be aboard her again so soon….

The software that runs our forum board hasn’t a Calendar drop-down-list update for years from 2012, so make a note everyone – Sarnia is sailing Bergen/Kirkenes/Svolvaer aboard Lofoten, departing Bergen on March 3rd
With so much excitement about Finnmarken’s return to service and Nordstjernen’s departure, I wouldn’t want our members’ voyages on other ships to get overlooked!

Thank you so much Cecilia. The picture of the boat in Finnsnes is also one of my favourites, it sums up the feeling of being on a working boat and the pleasure to be a part of a journey that has a meaning (a meaning besides the absolute wonders of the landscape we sail through).

I understand perfectly well (and I share) the excitment over Finnmarken and Nordstjernen. During my trip I will stop for 2 days in Svolvaer and then proceed to Trondheim aboard the Vesteraalen. If I'm not mistaken, our path should cross the Nordstjernen's last voyage, somewhere between Ørnes and Nessna, in the morning of March 14th, and I will be on the deck waving like crazy!

I have a few more pictures of the Lofoten to post before I leave (and hopefully a lot more to post when I return! ) .

A few minutes before the Trollfjord :

And one last picture of this trip, taken in Tromsø. The lit cabin (yellow/orange light) is our cabin, #A400. There are 4 "A" cabins on this deck, between the restaurant and the bar. The location is ideal, the cabins I think are slightly larger than other A cabins, there are two large square windows, and I was amazed at how quiet this cabin was (even though it shared a wall with the kitchens). No kitchen noise, no engine noise, nothing. We tried to get a similar cabin for our upcoming trip but apparently they book very fast!

#565/1 1 is my favourite of this set. I have seen the pictures also in you blog, thank you anyhow for posting them again. A40X cabins are indeed very nice, although my favourites are the cabins on deck 3. I like the working ship atmosphere on deck 3.

                              My very dear friend RALF.

As an "official ambassador" and a true ambassador of MS Lofoten, you should know that we count decks with LETTERS on the traditional ships. Not with NUMBERS. .

I have personally ONLY slept in cabins on the A-deck aboard Lofoten. Mainly because they are not so expensive. But also because I love the old original wooden beds. And also love the sounds and vibrations of the engine and the propellar.

If I am not very wrong, I think the location of the A2 400-406 was the dining room for 2.class-passangers when there still was a class-system. And that building this cabins was a part of the modernizing-process in the 80`s.

VEEEERY nice report, Sarnia. Thank you for sharing.

                                IIIIIIEEEEKKKK!

I am spoiled by the new ships. Of course it is deck B according to the English plan.

But if you have a closer look to that plan, there is a deck missing! Below deck A are more cabins, which are not mentioned in this plan! So please compare the German site:

                                http://www.hurtigruten.de/Utils/Hurt...ten/?tab=decks

Here the English deck B is called deck A, deck A is deck B and the missing English deck is deck C.
By the way, the Norwegian site is like the English one.

So you see, the German ambassadors count different anyway!! But i think, we are - typical German - more detailed and slightly more exact.

Like you, i never had a cabin on deck B/A/3. But in my dreams i stay always there...
