Dear richws, I agree to your website information, in the German version also is no scheduled tour showed for this week.

But compared to the printed catalog and its time schedule, Midnatsol should be out of route this week.
Lofoten should run the whole year without break (because never needs maintenance).

So it seems to be something inbetween - more or less half-planned...

Talfh, i know about the need of maintenance, but is interesting that she is always in schedule... It looks like they are working on that legend "never needs maintenance".

Hope they are running her and Nordstjernen not too fast tired, as you feared in previous posts, so that we lovers of the old ships can enjoy them many more years.

Thank you Sigve, for that link. Such a lot of new pictures for my screen saver....

Hurtigruten has decided that LO and NX should have 11 days out of route every year. NX will be out for 11 days in october
But LO and NX needs good crew to keep the ship in good condition, maybee i`ll be back on NX in october but you will never see me on LO

From an e-mail, I received a note that on a fellow Danish maritime forum often frequented by Norwegians, there was recently a thread created which contained images of a blue hulled Lofoten:

                  http://www.shipsforum.dk/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=5081

These images are really rare... would be awesome if we could find some more images from the year when Lofoten was blue.
With best regards from Jan-Olav Storli

....aaaah i see, and then you can photoshop these France/Norway-winglets on the funnel to create your next most favourite Hurtigruten-steamer.

What in heavens name were they thinking of, or what stuff were they running on, when they painted this beautiful ship in that dredful colour?????
(Pictures are important documentation though, but never..., NEVER, must such a vessel ever be painted in that colour again, please!!!) .

I'm just reminding you that Harald Jarl/Andrea is (was?) very goodlooking in blue. I think it depends on which blue you use. Everybody can agree that Lofotens blue was not the best we've seen.

I don't know, it's not so inappropriate. It probably matches the colour of the captain's hands when he's out on those open bridge wings in Winter.

More seriously, I think it's supposed to be "VDS blue" to match the flag and the band on the funnel.

Oh yes, I know. One of the most beautiful colours on shiny ship hulls are what I call Royal Blue. That's so totally different from this old sickening "VDS-blue".

to match the flag and the band on the funnel.
Yes, but then to paint a hole ship in that colour must have been the overkill of the year in those days.
It would be better to paint the hull white and then arrange a "VDS-blue" line or two along the hullsides or something.

No matter what I mean about the blu "Lofoten", I'm happy she's black today and that we all can agree on the importance of the photo documentation.

One of the largest fleet of ships in the world has blue hulls:

As you say it depends on which shade of blue, or what you are used to see on a particular ship/type of ships.

Orange is not exactly a nice colour either, but it has become accepted on a large number of of Offshore Vessels. (Solstad, among many others):

But the largest fleet of Offshore Vessels in the world is still blue. (Tidewater):

What about green, which is the hull colour for the large Bourbon fleet, as well as Havila and Graetship, among others:

I do agree that Lofoten looks bad with the chosen shade of blue, however.
Let's just be glad this was a short prelude in her long life.
