We set out for a walk. As you will have noticed, the weather has deteriorated in comparison with Honningsvåg’s sunshine, but that is no deterrent to photo taking!

I was also particularly pleased with this one.

We had continued past Polaria, further than I had previously been in that direction, to the theatre with these fascinating sculptures and on to some interesting new housing developments. Returning to the city centre by another route, the battle to keep camera lenses dry from the ever increasing rain was finally lost, and we took refuge in the cosy Egon restaurant for an early lunch –one can always count on these places to be open at times others aren’t on a Sunday, and the pizza buffet proved irresistible. Photo has already appeared in this post.

Naturally we all wanted to be back at the quay to see the northbound hurtigrute arrive, and our timing was perfect.

Richard With provided a different vantage point for further views of Nordstjernen.

It was time to say goodbye to Jens, who had plans for positioning himself at another vantage point to capture Nordstjernen’s departure. This is an appropriate moment to remind you that his brilliant video compilation of Nordstjernen’s visit is to be found here.

Although it had been so wet earlier, the clouds had lifted sufficiently for those who had taken the excursion to the Arctic cathedral and up on the cable car to see the view. Now, just as it was time for Richard With to depart, the sun was actually peeping through the clouds.

I could hear sounds of singing, and it turned out to be the Friends of Moffen who had gone to serenade Richard With’s passengers!

Many took to Nordstjernen’s decks to watch Richard With’s departure.

If you’d thought that there didn’t seem to be so many out on deck in the final departure shots of Nordstjernen in arcticGateway’s video, it is because we’d had the call to dinner, but naturally I stayed out, taking photos of him taking photos of Nordstjernen!

Ah, can’t be too long now…

                            Finally goodbye Tromsø.

…and I didn’t even miss any dinner as it wasn’t a hot starter anyway! Neither had they begun serving the main course at those tables in the distant cafeteria! Definitely an advantageous location for the most enthusiastic of enthusiasts.

Around the ship after dinner – and I’m playing with a wider-angle lens than I usually have available.

                                Evening …. ship and sky.

It had been strange how often in this voyage I felt I’d forgotten that I’m not taking those project 365 daily “skyscape” photos any longer. I found myself thinking about those days and years – and a line from a Joni Mitchell song, “So many things I would have done, but clouds got in my way.” ....

But that evening on Nordstjernen’s deck I was so pleased to see those clouds, finding the place to stand where their triangular shape was echoed in the upturned V of the lifeboat davit, playing with angle of mast and horizon, the light kissing the funnel’s H.
