To Kristian: truly amazing photos from Harstad this morning
To everybody else: I was right next to him when he was taking these...seemed to be effortlessly snapping away...but just LOOK and MARVEL at the results...I'm SO impressed.

It was awful to step ashore tonight.

The thought of never again riding out on my bicyckle to visit Nordstjernen..

Oh Carina. Thank you for sharing your emotions. I feel the exact same emotions.

I said earlier in this thread, that traveling with Nordstjernen is like visiting a caring grandmother.......

And to loose such a caring grandmother, is AWFUL.

Right now I feel I want to find a place I can CRY some tears together with you............................

And that I am able to wake up some day in the future to share happy memories of our beloved "grandmother", knowing that nothing lasts forever. But happy memories does..........

I am just reading the posts from Carina and Martin.
You know, I didn't actually look out for my friends before leaving the ship yesterday to say proper goodbyes. Now, reading the sensitive and thoughtful things Martin has written, I am thinking that I must have felt instinctively that such goodbyes would have made leaving the ship too hard for me.

As it happens, my complicated stop/start kind of trip probably makes it easier - and even when I leave Nordstjernen in Ålesund I will be thinking of being back onboard in Svalbard.

But I have just looked at a photo Carina added to her album on Facebook,
and I hope you will also post it here Carina for those who might otherwise miss it ...it is the portrait format one where folk are leaning from the ship with their flags, and on the quay below someone is walking away. For me that image captures these "last time" emotions so movingly.

I'm glad I wrote in the Forever word on the banner, as that symbolises our memories as you say Martin, but it isn't my name being there that's important, but that of CaptainsVoyage.

This discussion is (not unexpectedly) getting very emotional... Thank you for your beautiful pictures and meaningful words.

A few pictures from my Harstad - Stamsund trip.

Clipper, I have videos from Risøyrenna for you. I'll just put them together first, and upload them to you.

There's a lot more of them on my page (www.hurtigruten-web.com).

And the local newspaper came onboard in Stamsund and took a few pictures. The first one is me and the captain, and the second is Nordstjernen leaving Stamsund..

And of course I had to burst into tears when the journalist asks me how it feels that Nordstjernen's not comming back..

Great images Carina, not to forget those on your page.
That last picture from the newspaper is quite emotional indeed.

@Carina: I think your last picture must be the best "good-bye" picture that is taken. It's perfect!

All the accounts here are so emotional. I'm so glad I wasn't there - it's so embarrassing for a man to cry in public.

Did anyone notice that Nordstjernen has been removed from the auction-page: Norsk Megling & Auksjon AS?

Not for sale, and not sold. According to and article, Hurtigruten had not asked Norsk Megling & Auksjon to put Nordstjernen for sale on their page, they did it themselves, which apparently is a normal procedure in the business.
