Yeah, she was leaving the yard (Hamek) after a week of maintenance.

Great picture Asimut. Still don't get how you succeed with these..
Do you have Vibration Reduction on your camera?

I just returned from the docks after a visit onboard

Wow you have the D7000. My dream-camera. I have a new lense with VR waiting in the mail. Finally upgrading my gear. It's needed.

Found this article in the norwegian newspaper "Aftenposten". Lots of good pictures. To my pleasant surprise a former shipmate of mine is now captain on this grand old lady

Happy New Year everyone! Now as 2012 is here, I'm starting to think about my south-bound trip on MS Nordstjernen departing Kirkenes on 13th February. Will any forum members be onboard/in the area while I'm on the trip? Also, can you recommend anything to see/do along the way on the short stops - I prefer getting off and exploring on foot, the only excursion I have booked is the Midnight Concert in Tromso. I also have a day in Bergen on 18/19 February so any insider tips would be appreciated. Finally, any practical advice for travelling at this time of year on MS Norstjernen? Thanks in advance, Graeme

Hi there Graeme. I keep thinking I ought to go and say goodbye to NX, but no plans…I’ve been away travelling rather a lot recently!
I can’t quite remember if you have taken an extended trip with Hurtigruten before. Anyway, you will have lots of time in Trondheim to walk into town if you haven't been there before. You could reach the cathedral (though it is not always open), and then stroll back by the old wooden bridge and past the old warehouses along the river. I like to cross the bridge and return through the area called Bakklandet on that side.
For ideas for other places, start by taking a look at the thread in the Hurtigruten section RENAMED THREAD: Hurtigruten Autumn Cruise - November 2011 to see what some of us did in November on a southbound trip (Keelson is currently posting a northbound trip from the same week, but the rest is southbound bound though I haven’t posted mine yet! .

Happy New Year to you Graeme. I have your datum in mind. And I will se what I can do about it. Unfortunalely the soutbound arrives and departs Bodø in the middle of the night. But I GOT to have a short Goodbye-trip with NX. So it fits my work, you might see me aboard for some hours.

Hi everyone, again, and thanks for the welcome This forum is really a great place.

In the last five days, I was in Norway - for the single reason to travel with good old "Nordstjernen" again, if only for a short trip. So I travelled from Trondheim to Bergen with her, from Wednesday to Thursday. It was mostly reasonably calm, though not always (rather a lot of rocking around Kristiansund :-) ) and I heard from fellow passengers that it was really stormy further north, they had to rope up the chairs and sent the passengers to their cabins. By the way, why are there no chains anymore, affixing the chairs to the floor? I'm not quite sure whether the Nordstjernen had those chains in the past, anyway, but I distinctly remember them on the Lofoten and have made some pictures of them at least in 2006 (e.g. in my video). The "Nordstjernen" seemed to be very well maintained to me, outside and inside - somehow she even looked "fresher" to me than 2007 on Svalbard, when I last saw her closely, but this of course might be the dim winter light, whereas the harsh Svalbard summer light exposes every detail and every scratch and bump
