              Hi all...

Yer.. good'day mate, how are ha, well just letting all of you know that your ship is in good hands down here in Australia, she will be looked after !!!.

The Gorgan Project is massive, and the requirements outlaid by the Government of this country is mind boggling, I have seen in the past, people posting negativity in regards to the condition of the vessel once the contract has finished, this is pure speculation, all personnel that has the privilege to reside on board the Finnmarken will be required to abide by the terms and conditions outlaid prior to their deployment as residents on the vessel, there will be no alcohol on board and this will be strictly enforced, the word “Rough Necks” is an American term, so please leave us out of that one !!!, and for those who think Barrow island is just nothing but a desert island that has nothing but mossies, think again, having spent my younger years on these islands they have a unique footprint with wildlife that will be protected in a fashion no other country could understand.

We are a young, but great nation.

              James.

                Dear James,

First of all, let me take this opportunity to wish you a really warm welcome on board our board, our vessel, called CaptainsVoyage. We are honored to welcome you with our ranks and hope you will find great interest in the future exploring the different threads with us.

We are all so thrilled that the vessel will be in good hands, she is dear to a lot of people, especially along the coast of Norway, and needless to say, she is deeply missed up north.

We all hope and trust you will find the vessel to be well within your wishes and we hope she will serve you all well.

If you at any point, get a chance to share some images of the vessel in those exotic waters, we are really pleased and honored to peak at them.

We have read a bit about the project where she is to serve, and I think I can safely agree, that the project seems to be mind-boggling big. But I trust you will all find the right resources and the right way of doing things.

Wish you all down there, all the best... G'd day mates...

It's that pipe again! I would still like to find some confirmation of what it is for. I fear i must sound like a geek, but I have traced the pipe back up to the large box structure that was added before she left for Australia, so i guess the question really should be "What is that box?". Storage tank for some type of liquid?, or indeed a large aircon plant? You will notice that the pipe seems to bypass what looks like an aircon plant situated below the funnel.

It would need to be a VERY large A/C Plant to require this size of pipe to drain condensation, even in the hot and humid conditions at Barrow.

As said earlier, Barrow Island is a "Zero Discharge" Zone for any affluence. Maybe it has something to do with that? Or somebody has spent a lot of monies to drain a few liters of water per hour.
I notice the hose has been dropped down already, so maybe the last is true.

I wondered if the pipe might be for uptake of seawater though I can't think why so maybe some other liquid, from a tanker?

We understand she will be "dry" while on Gorgon duty, so it can't be whisky!

Nice picture of Finnmarken in Fremantle on Maasmond Maritime - Shipping News Clippings today.
She is still at D Berth so no need to repeat the same old webcam pics.
ETD is now given as 08.04.2010 at 1000 hrs.
I hope they are well paid while sitting idle there.

As said, Barrow Island is a Nature Reserve and VERY strict rules applies to any activity there, incl. mooring a ship to house workers (or staff):

On Barrow Island, the first signs of Gorgon are starting to show. Shipping containers - entirely shrink-wrapped to prevent mainland pests such as rats or ****roaches being introduced - are being unloaded and scrub cleared for an accommodation camp, said Anne Nolan, a state government official who visited this month.
They are going to have some issues coming up in this respect, I would think.

Here is a link to a video about the project and the environmental concerns:
