    Dear Pindakaas,

Thank you so very, very much for sharing your images of the beautiful Finnmarken in your exotic Australian port. She looks stunning, and just like a wonderful super yacht!

5-10 years ago, I would never have guessed that this ship would ever sail to a country that far away from Norway.

I'm starting to really like the white look of Finnmarken...

Did you all get to use the swimming pool on the long way down? I hope you all performed the traditional baptism at Equator... and I'm sure that King Neptune enjoyed performing the rituals for all of you on board.

The new black paint on the letters might have peeled off during the long voyage, it happens sometimes.

Hey, they have turned Finnmarken's AIS on again, at least briefly. This data is 3 days old (valid at about 23:00 7 March 2010 ship's local time).

            Latitude / Longitude: -32.05023˚ / 115.7443˚ (from marinetraffic.com)
Nearby places: North Fremantle, Fremantle, East Fremantle

That's the first (public) update since Las Palmas.

I think their AIS have been on all the time, but just out of range of the limited number of AIS receivers which are listed / connected on marinetraffic.com

But which ship is that, I wonder???

Aha!! The House flag was a dead give away:

Does anybody know how she will be moored at Barrow Island???

I asked a Balmoral crew member if he took some images of Finnmarken while they were together... waiting for a reply!

In this Norwegian article, dated a few days ago, Hurtigruten hopes for an extension on the lucrative charter of Finnmarken to Australia.

They are very happy for the first 18 months of charter but hope for an additional 18 months to be added at a later point in time.

She is now at E Berth, Fremantle. ETD now 1800 hrs. 23.03.2010 bound for Dampier. Doesn't look like much activity around her.
Is she On-Hire, or still on mobilization fee????

According to an article at NRK, Hurtigruten is making a lot of money on renting out of Finnmarken: actually, they make more money on this charter than all the other ships combined.

Administrative Director of HRG, Olav Fjell, also states that Finnmarken will return to Norway, but that they hope she will be on charter a very, very long time...

In the article, it is mentioned that Hurtigruten PTY, the company set up to handle the charter from Australia, also has a contract to the charterer to provide a supply ship for Finnmarken.

She is still there, with every camera pointed at her. I'll capture some daylight pics tomorrow.
ETD is now given as 31. March, 2010, so they are obviously not in a hurry to get her up to Dampier and finally to Barrow.
Pindakaas may have some update on what is going on??
