Well Jan-Olav. I am NOT fan of the white hull. Maybe this has to do with emotions and associations. Do you long too much back to your beloved white Crystal vessels?????????????????????

I like to see Finnmarken as a HURTIGRUTE. Not as a cruise-ship or hotel-ship. Seeing her dressed in white makes me a bit sad

I agree with you Helgeland. I don`t think she looks like a Hurtigrute anymore.

Very valid views on the whole HM. I think my fascination of the white hull is based on two reasons: firstly I would like to see a white Hurtigrute, like what was usual many years ago: secondly, as you mentioned, I miss Crystal.... (=shocker!).

While FINNMARKEN is in dock, prepearing for her long journey "down under", I will go back in time to her maiden voyage in Hurtigruten.

"Avisa Nordland" was onboard. And of course a "young" CV-member.

Here I am sitting in front of Kjell Nupen`s beautiful artwork in "Fløybaren". The artist Kjell Nupen is a former neighbour and school-mate from Kristiansand. And I had a live-report from Finnmarkens maiden voyage by phone to a local radio-station in Kristiansand while Nupen was sitting in the studio.

The following report and photo, is a copied report from "Avisa Nordland" april 24. 2002

Now I have more Norwegian reading practice!

Jan Martin, you are giving me a treats on such a regular basis recently! – like the reference to Hamsun just when I had been thinking about that writer (you’ll see why sometime later today if I get that far in posting something on Midnatsol’s thread…).

And now this morning you just casually mention that you were a school mate of “the Blue Painter” !!!!!!!!!!!! how absolutely cool is that!!!!!!!!!!!!
                      – see, you are driving me to almost ehp-quantities of exclamation marks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On Finnmarken I specially like Endeløs reise.
Less his characteristic blue, but a favorite of mine in the restaurant on Trollfjord, is this:-

The reader's comments below the article mention a "tragiske hendelsen natt til søndag" (tragic incident on Sunday night).

                          Does anyone know what happened?

How sad. Have they announced what type of work he was doing at the time?

If it's like UK, then they say as little as possible and it all comes out later in court.

Here is little something from RIGZONE on the development of the Gorgon Field, which is where she will be palying a small part:

Western Australia Breaks Ground for $39.4B Gorgon Project Government of Western Australia|Tuesday, December 01, 2009

Gorgon Gas Facility on Barrow Island WA Premier Colin Barnett has marked the formal start of works on Chevron's A$43 billion (US $39.39 billion) Gorgon project with a ceremonial groundbreaking on Barrow Island.

The groundbreaking marks the start of construction of a three-train, 15 million metric ton per year LNG facility that will create about 10,000 jobs during the peak construction phase with more than 3,500 direct and indirect jobs sustained throughout the life of the project.

With total gas resources of 40 trillion cubic feet, Gorgon will be the biggest resources project in Australia's history and make a significant contribution towards Western Australia's prosperity in the next 30 years.

Barnett said benefits from the project were already flowing to locally-based construction and manufacturing companies. Businesses including Howard Porter, Mermaid Marine, Ertech and Laing O'Rourke were among those awarded contracts.

"Today marks the formal start of work on the biggest resource project ever seen in Australia," he said.

"The scale of the project is big, but it's the flow-on benefits to WA companies and the creation of jobs as a result that provide tangible benefits to local people and their families.

"Hundreds of millions of dollars will be spent on ongoing, long-term maintenance and service contracts

"The State Government has a local content policy in place and has been working with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry through the Industry Capability Network to ensure local businesses are involved and will benefit from the Gorgon project."

While the majority of revenues from the project will flow to the Commonwealth, the Premier welcomed the Federal Government's pledge to spend 25 percent of expected Petroleum Resource Rent Tax from the project, worth up to $100 million a year, on WA infrastructure projects.

The first LNG from Gorgon is due in 2014 and domestic gas is planned by the end of 2015.

The Gorgon Joint Venture participants have entered into long term LNG sales and purchase agreements with customers in Japan, China, India, South Korea and North America.
Big project and big money involved, also for the bit players.
