What are they up to now???????
I certainly hope they don`t want to paint some flirting eyes and flowers on the hull, as well.
I guess we have to pay extra attention to all ships from now on. Interesting to see if every ships get that "HURTIGRUTEN" written by big white letters.
At least they didn't add: .com.
Anybody with a bucket of black paint and a paint roller that could do the needful before anybody notice? What stupidity.

The ships are so distinctive I cannot see why this is needed - especially while they are in Norwegian waters.

Usually I let some things pass without any fuzz, well ok..., I had something to write when they painted the funnels black...., but now I feel some kind of anger!!!!

Who came up with this stupid idea, what's the reason, why mess up the ships....???

And as you wrote 'ombugge' thank God they didn't add .com on the hullside....., that would've destroyed the ship as a photo object totally in addition to look completely stupid.

Now, you all know that TF is my favourite ship, don’t you. So you might expect that I would be passionately leading the cries of horror –or even suggesting the discussion might give new meaning to the “Hurtigruten nightmares” thread!
I’m not saying (or can even quite visualise yet) what it might look like on other ships. And I am definitely not going to finalise my opinion of this until I have seen it in reality.

But . . . I couldn’t help feeling just a bit that it sort of suited TF’s “chunkyness”.

And here’s a further thought for you:
I associate big letters on the side of a ship more with a passenger ferry or cargo type of vessel than a CRUISE ship . . . and convincing the tourists that a hurtigrute is NOT a cruise ship is something I really do feel passionate about.

She'll be arriving in Rorvik tonight, and I'll make sure I get some images of her new starboard side paint scheme..... expect a reply within the next 8 hours or so.

Well...., my curiosity took over my brain just an hour or so ago, so I sent an e-mail to "Trollfjord" to find out what this is all about....
I guess they have more than enough to do with other things in this high-season than to answer mails from more or less crazy shipspotters, so it might be a while before I get an answer...

At least, proper images will come tonight! I hope this is just a test face and that they are not planning on doing it to all their ships...

From a business point of view, I may understand their thinking, spreading the word of the company and making it more visible... BUT, who in Norway doesn't know of these ships or Hurtigruten?

Oh.... just came to think of it.... for Hurtigruten Group, it is a great and relatively cheap advertisement when an image of one of these ships with their company name pops up somewhere on the net.... people will suddenly realize what the name of the company is, and hopefully google them....

Wondered about opening a new thread called "Ships inbound Rørvik" but since I don't know when you're home and since I just sent you an sms concerning TF...., here's the other vessel I urged you to look out for in my sms:

                    Photo: via Norsk Illustrert Skipsliste

"Stockholm" is on her way to Svalbard and she's just passing abeam Buholmråsa Light at 9 knots. She's a beauty to take pictures of, so as I understand you're on leave from your good chair aboard your HSC, it might be fair lightconditions still at around 10 PM in Rørvik tonight...?

BTW; TF is just behind "Stockholm" doing 15 knots at present time...

Duly noted... I'll try get that one as well....

If you happen to be online, feel more than welcome to remind me when she is 15-20 minutes south of the bridge.... just in case I forget my time...

Okidoki, boss....! The day I'm not on the internet almost 24/7 will be the day we see the Ozzy Osborne-administration in 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

EDIT: Right now TF is going on the outer side of Lausflesa, Nordvindsflesa and Langrøa doing 7 to 11 knots. Don't know what they are playing at, maybe someone spotted whales.....? Well, might not dock in Rørvik before 9:00 PM then....
What "Stockholm" concerns, she's doing 7 knots with 25 nautical miles left to the Nærøysundet bridge, so they must really enjoy their ride and take their time...

Update: TF (14.1 kts) has 9 NM left to Marøy, "Stockholm" (8.5 kts) has 15 NM to Marøy.

And here are the images, probably among the first real hi-res images of the ship on the Internet with the new Hurtigruten writing on the sides (and, I can confirm, it's on both sides!)

                            Rørvik, June 3rd 2009:

There will be a few more images in the Rørvik - two ships thread as well, in a few minutes!

                              Great job, Jan-Olav!!!

I don't know about that side-paint......, is it really necessary...., has there ever been any doubt about what those ships are doing on the coast....????

Is it possible that TF is going to be used in some sort of a promotion during the summer...., does anybody know.....?

I think this may be the reason... for places on the net - all across the world - I think they call it branding in fancy terms...
