Took a couple of pictures of "Trollfjord" as she was southbound in Kristiansund this afternoon.
Not that I didn't have enough pictures of her before, but in light of the sad happening in Ålesund, I wanted to see a hurtigrute, any of them, and to reflect a little bit about what happened and to think about all the people and the two who died and their family.
It's not easy to spot, but "Trollfjord" is flying the flag half pole in respect.

Your reflective mood comes across in that last photo Sterkoder. Much appreciated...

            Re: ::: Trollfjord :::

Some more Trollfjord shots. I wasn't at all sure when I first saw the new Trollfjord and Midnatsol, but they've really grown on me. Reckon the biggest attraction of the fleet is the diversity - all of the ships are beautiful in their own way.

A 'ship going somewhere' photo first, leaving Molde, June 2010.

Always find watching the people one of the best bits of being near these ships - I got the feeling that these two may have been discussing how wise it had been to go on a cruise up the Norwegian coast in early June.

Back into the sun (and back in time) - early July 2006, in Honningsvåg. Arriving on the dock. Looking back at the collection, I realise that I have nearly every ship at the point of the approach onto the quay - turning hard, slowing down - varying number of people on deck depending on the weather!! Next time I'm back, I'll be filling in the gaps of those shots - but looking for the fun, quirky ones of life on and around the ships to liven things up!

Same trip, during our 'coffee visit', the ship moved onto the adjacent quay for a spot of decoration, and the opportunity for a view of 'the other side'. Seem to remember quite a firm arrival as the dock leapt out to hit us (couldn't have been a driving error!).

And finally - the same day - but from the mountain. This was pretty much beyond the range of the camera that I had then (it was struggling for enough resolution, and was a long way away) but for me these high views capture so much of the beauty of Norway, and the importance of the Hurtigruten to village life - especially in the north.

            Cheers,

            Mark.

Great photos Mark! The fourth one is really amazing with the reflecions in the paint making the picture almost unrealistic.

Thanks Tommi. Looking back at the original files, there were some amazing reflections on most of the photos on that day - sun and blue sky like that can be hard to find in that part of the world!! That one did turn out particularly 'arty' though. Makes a change from the photos of our 2009 trip, where the milky colour of the sky was making things very difficult for most of the week in the village.

Mark! Just a very quick, almost "bookmark" kind of response to this and your posts in other threads... I'm rather aware of having all sorts of delighted responses to your great photos and reminiscences, but I know you'll understand if I haven't always said so... (just this very moment about to board Nordnorge in Tromsø!!!!)

Thanks for that - much appreciated. Enjoy NN - I rather suspect you will!!

Really looking forward to 'travelling with you' through the Forum posts.

Dimensions and proportions; Trollfjord docked in Trondheim. The man illustrates how big these ships are!

Great photo Sigve. She certainly does look big in that one - and the sky is beautiful too.

Trollfjord and Midnatsol are fantastic ships - but I can't help thinking that Finnmarken's stern is a little more ladylike! (For example Post 522 in the Finnmarken thread). Am I alone in that?
                        Cheers,

You are not alone....that is said to be the reason Finnmarken is Lady E's favourite ship!....

                            Certainly not!
I've heard FM referred to as 'J-Lo' too (that Jennifer Lopez, you know), and she's not exactly displaying anything flat and square..., to be polite...
Will be nice to see FM in the hurtigruten service again, but sad at the same time to loose 'Nordstjernen'.

Re Nordstjernen and Finnmarken, I suppose it's that old thing of every silver lining has a cloud.

Re back ends of boats - J-Lo - great!! What does that make the other two? Probably a dangerous conversation!!
