    That will be brilliant Keelson!

Just posting this photo of Deck 7 for comparison with Polarlys for our member Tommi who is considering a Hurtigruten trip maybe March/April next year. The photo was actually taken in 2005 when NN had a season in Antarctica, and is taken somewhere between the Falklands and Buenos Aires on the return journey!

Interesting photo Seagull, some folks in the coat, some in the T-shirt ;-))

Here some more photos from the Nordnorge near Havøy, 18th September (sorry, bad weather conditions)

      with kind regards,

Thanks Seagull and Joachim for the pictures, great stuff.
This makes me think about something that perhaps should be a own thread on this forum; which HR ship has the best feeling onboard?

Although maybe not exactly what you were thinking, have you discovered this thread yet Tommi? ….and voted?!
Although with the heading “Poll”, you will see that many of us also posted and explained at some length about our feelings for various ships, (for example my post#17 about Trollfjord).

A friend of mine has taken these two pictures of the "Nordnorge" when she arrives at Rørvik. He would share it with us. So when I was allowed to post them here on the forum

                "Nordnorge" in Rørvik

                  Finally it is official now.

My wife and me, our two children and my parents in law will go aboard Nordnorge at 1st of November 2011 in Kirkenes to do the southbound voyage on her!!

The problem was to combine the different discount offers.
The cheapest price period of the year begins at 1st of November and childrens autumn holiday last until the 6th of November (when we will return at 21.55 in Stuttgart).
So Nordnorge was the the only ship fitting into this schedule!
Then we wanted to use the early-booking and the "Ambassador"(=repeater) discount as well, which is together nearly 25%.
Finally children are free passengers on the southbound ships!

Sounds attractive, but is not easy. First they tell you that there are no available cabins for four persons on most ships! Only Vesteralen and Lofoten have such cabins, but these are, as HRG told us, already fully booked for November 2011!!

I don't believe that! But since my parents in law are travelling with us, we took the opportunity to take two three-person-cabins, which was accepted. Same discussion with the hotel room in Kirkenes (because of the flight schedule we have to spend a night in Kirkenes). The hotel - told Hurtigruten - should have no possibility to set additional beds in the rooms, like it is demanded to get the children discount on the flight prices. After i insisted on that possibility, because it is part of the offer, they asked again and now it is possible.

This whole booking ceremony took more than four weeks, until all different confirmations were given. Yesterday i received by letter the invoice and now i can be sure that all this is accepted. Phew.

Now we all expect a wonderful autumn cruise with less passengers, changing weather conditions, waves, northern lights. Hopefully our "new" ship will keep the schedule and we can now spent a visit in the Hurtigruten museum. Lofoten in 2007 was late and so we had only the possibility to rush over, buy some postcard and rush back, while the captain was blowing his horn...

                      ….and maybe even a seagull sighting….

(don’t worry, a wooden non-German speaking seagull would be very respectful of family holidays, and knows all the hiding places on NN! )

                        ...i knew it!!!

                        That would be big fun!!!

My children will have another opportunity to improve their school - English.

Don't worry about distance to our family, we all six live together under one roof all the year and also often during the week-ends in "grand parents" small cottage in the Black Forest. We are used to see each other and need therefore no extra space for ourselves during holidays. We like to meet people and experience new things.

                        That would be big fun!!!

                        Can't wait for your confirmation!!!

Now, that would be big fun!!! (Oops did i write that before???)

might be another four weeks of course!!!!!!!!!!

Well, maybe not, for I had actually started looking into the possibilities already, amazingly for around that same time, though that came about because I fancied NN and so was studying her schedule. My one trip on her was my first to Antarctica in 2005,very special, and of course after that she was out of the service altogether and we all feared we would not see her in Norway again. So I thought it was about time.

I felt like having one trip definitely planned ahead for next year (as other travels likely to be more spontaneous, Norway again...maybe Sweden...maybe Thailand…)

In November I’m coming round to thinking more the complete southbound trip including meals rather than the sort of arrangement I’ve been doing for shorter times in the summer.

                          Comment

Well, including meals is the only option for German bookers, if they want to do a complete trip. If i had the choice i would prefer only two meals a day, we had this in 2007 and it was perfect for us...
And with a whole family in your background you won't have to fear for boring table times...

                            Here is your British offer:
                            https://consumerbooking.hurtigruten....oking/Cabins1/

                            German price is € 834,61 for a J-Cabin, € 878,22 for N - Cabin, single user...

                              I’ve booked !!!!!!

Doubtless the confirmation invoice will take a while to get here at this time of year, but even at my most pessimistic/cynical I’m not expecting it to differ from what was agreed and booked while I was on the phone to the London office this afternoon!

It was the differing discounts and offers on various pages of the website and what comes up or doesn’t come up when you actually attempt to book online, plus the usual problem of combining of discounts, which was the difficulty. So I ended up on the phone to London, but with all the facts and figures to hand was able to agree a satisfactory deal.

Yes, Ralf, the complete trips include meals for UK bookings too – here it has usually been last minute bookings that have sometimes been offered “half board” so as to attract people with a lower “headline price” on unpopular sailings. I actually have rather a small appetite, although very much enjoying my food, and so I find the buffets, where you can just sample a bit of what you fancy, to be ideal. At set dinners I am usually explaining my small appetite and apologising for not eating all my potatoes! – same in Sweden when there are times of year for certain kinds of potato which everyone gets excited about, and it almost feels like a crime to leave any uneaten!

Now, what I have actually booked is a slightly longer trip with a short port-to-port added in front of the southbound trip from Kirkenes. I will start from Tromsø on October 30th and of course this part is not a specific cabin. From Kirkenes on November 1st I will be in cabin N521. It is not “my” cabin from Antarctica, which was 543, but is at the opposite, forward, end of the mid block of port-side cabins which are slightly smaller than the P grade ones on Deck 5. Not everyone likes being on the promenade deck I know, but I like it, and especially at an end of corridor location from where one can pop outside quickly without traipsing along corridors and up stairs.

Now with something definite to look forward too, I feel I can take the rest of 2011 as it comes!

After reading Ralph's post earlier today, I went to the Hurtigruten site and found it would let me book no meals, half board or full board. That was on the same 1st Nov 2011 NN sailing from KKN.

An information panel gave identical meal prices for "pre-buy" and "buy onboard", so there's no saving to be had by pre-buying (just the convenience of not having to deal with money every day).

For the record : Breakfast £14; Lunch £29; Dinner £40.

I would probably take breakfast and dinner but that's a massive £54 per day on food. I think I'll wait for the GBP to get stronger before I sail the beautifiul voyage again.

Of course, those were standard prices. I was unable to get into the "Ambassadors" section (I don't qualify ...... yet).
