So I think it is very wise if HRG keep "Nordnorge". And rent her out for good income as long as NX and LO are shaped to do a good job in the service. And fullfill HRGs comitment with the Norwegian government. And than bring NN back to service in 2012 IF HRG get a new contract after 2012.
I totally agree with you on that. It's a good way of keeping her around, whilst still making some kind of income on her, until such time when she needs to step in on the coast again.

Only time will tell, if HRG gets the next deal with the government in 2012 or if the contract will go to a new operator, which I both doubt and hope will not happen.

Yes, Nordnorge is doing a good job right now, while we have the traditional ships.

At the time of the merger, when we first heard that the merged company was to be called Hurtigruten, I remember thinking how extraordinary it would be if some other operator ever got the contract, and Hurtigruten-with-a-capital-H was no longer running hurtigruten-with-a-small-h !!!......
It was almost as if they felt that the choice of name would guarantee them continuity in some way.

To be honest: Which other company has a vacant fleet which is able to do this service??

                Hotel ship crew

What crew are likely to have remained with Nordnorge during her spell as a hotel ship?

She has been moored at sea so did she have to sail to shore intermittently to collect supplies & fuel? so presumably her 'ship' crew were required although perhaps a smaller number of personnel?

Would the 'hotel services' crew be members of her normal crew or would they have been Aker staff?

                ... just curious

There has been the usually number og engine and deck crew. But how much crew there has been in the hotell department i dont know. All of the crew is hired by hurtigruten asa, and i think the hotell crew was from asia but i am not sure

                    Thanks

What happens to the normal 'Nordnorge' crews? do they work on the other coastal ships while their own ship is absent?

For accommodation vessels it is normal to use a Catering Contractor to handle the hotel services. Where they get their crew from would be hard to tell, but India is a good guess.

I dont think Nordnorge would be laid up so i dont think there would be any problems for the crew.

Yaaahh! They are optimistic now about the better results and the fact, that the government decided to keep the size of the service in the North.

So they need this ship, especially if they get real trouble with Nordstjernen's condition..

Please give me some time to sort out the real facts behind HRG's quarterly report. It would be anyway much cheaper to have some more ships of Vesteralen or Fram size in regular service.

The money they saved while having Nordstjernen in service instead of Nordnorge or Nordlys was obvious and enormous...
