"Nordnorge" bound for Sandnessjøen today. Seen from the ferry "Møysalen"

Magical light conditions you have captured, with the low cloud and mist on the mountains and NN sailing into the light! Fantastic viewpoint you found from the ferry!

Absolutely beautiful Tom, what kind of shutter speed did you use....?

Let me know the next time you're in Oslo. I'd quite like to learn panning ships. I'm quite good at panning cars, but I haven't tried panning ships in the dusk before...

                          Thanks guys

Eirik: There will be no Oslo before Christmas now, but if you are available then we can have a little session in panning ships.
On a cloudy day in December it should be possible to pan Color Magic/Fantasy on both arrival and departure

My next trip now will be to Kongsberg on the 30th this month and then I won't have a pit stop in Oslo this time.

Around Christmas I should be done with my exams, so if I don't have work I'd be happy to take a ship-panning-session.

When I pan cars I usually determine a shutter speed right for the job and stick with it, and lets the camera select the appropriate aperture. If the aperture is too small, giving me visual diffraction, I just add an ND-filter or polarizer. I usually stick with 1/125s or 1/160s for cars. Maybe 1/80s if it's going very slowly.

Now it's totally dark outside, so the image quality is slightly worse.
But anyway here's today's picture of "NN"
