This is far OT. But today I was in my storage-room sorting and cleaning in old boxes. Actually looking for some Christmas-stuff.

But all of a sudden, an old "friend" appeared at the bottom of a dusty box.....

What a find! You should put it in a frame and find a nice place for it at your wall.

SJØKURS with NRK TV sail into Kristiansund harbour Tuesday 30th JULY.
Kristiansund is one of 38 harbours from Oslo to Kirkenes which will receive a visit from the broadcasting company and this beautiful ship.
The 45 to 60 minutes long program will be on the air in the evening, around eight o'clock, and is a direct broadcast.
The only two ports of call in Møre and Romsdal county will be Ålesund and Kristiansund .

I'm really sorry to point out this, but she does look "tired" in some of the shots. I know it's all superficial and that winter has not given the opportunity to do maintenance, but in some of the shots I see scaling paint, old teak decks and tired railing... I know, I know... details, but after all, I come from Crystal Cruises....

...and you came from Serenissima, which was refurbished all winter long for a well situated cruise clientele.

Don't forget that SJØKURS has a completely different financial background and has to earn each NOK before they can buy paint with it.
And her passengers mostly aren't such comfortable with money. I hope they will keep her as long as possible in sea worthy condition.
In my opinion it is a very respectable work to keep her in that condition.

At least a much better fate than Finnmarken and Kong Olav.

Sjøkurs in Leith, Scotland, 23rd and 24th May, 2013

It was quite by chance last Thursday that I just happened to idly bring up AIS and click on displaying the port of Leith – and I could hardly believe my eyes! Sjøkurs! I clicked for further checks …IMO number etc. …YES, it WAS “our” Sjøkurs actually here in Leith …how could I not have known that!

Well naturally I had to get along to Leith right away! Grabbing camera, which fortunately had its battery fully charged and a sufficiently capacious memory card in place, I whirled out of the house towards the bus stop. I had not been at the best location for such an excursion, and the bus might take anything from 45 minutes to an hour from there depending on the traffic and crowds in the city centre. But although the sun occasionally peeped out, the unseasonably cold temperature and extremely strong winds had kept the crowds indoors, and I arrived at Leith in record time.

Here on CVF such activity could perhaps be described as“Sterkoder-ish” or “Sterkodering”, for we all know how nothing gets in the way of Svein when a ship-that-must-be-photographed unexpectedly presents itself! I feel very proud that such a role-model has already noticed my efforts ...but I know I'm rarely up to achieving such timely posting of the reports.

Sjøkurs was moored along the quay at the Ocean Terminal shopping centre, at the other end from Britannia’s permanent museum-ship place. I took this view of her starboard side from across the harbour, despite the intrusive fence on the intervening wasteland which isn’t even in any way “secure” or in any way functional!

There was another ship in the harbour, the small cruise ship Island Sky, moored at the cruise terminal building and somewhat confusingly peeping out behind Sjøkurs in this view from the café terrace.

The “pakarang view” from near the cruise terminal isn’t wholly satisfactory either. Although I succeeded in poking my camera lens against the netting (of annoyingly inadequate mesh size!), the result gives the impression that the ship is boarded by some sort of “air bridge”! –actually the more distant access to the Royal Yacht Britannia.
