One of my favourite ships of the former BDS fleet, and a slightly larger sister to both Polarlys and Nordstjernen: the Meteor.

She was during her career sold to Epirotiki Lines and came to sail as the Neptune for many years. She has now been scrapped and only lives on in our memory.

This ship also experienced a tragic fire during her career:

I really thought there were many HRG-fans among you who were fond of this old Bergenske-ship: I have always liked her profile but have had some problems finding images of her from the time she served on the Norwegian Coast.

This is an image which I believe is taken outside of Mykonos during her time with Epirotiki Lines:

Meteor was a very beautiful vessel

My Grandfather actually was the 2.engineer on Meteor.

There is a model of her displayed in the Maritime museum of Bergen:

Thank you so VERY MUCH for posting those pictures: lovely design on this vessel and the model is really beautiful. I will make sure to look for it some day when I go to Bergen and the Maritime Museum there.

Did Meteor really have a yellow funnel instead of BDS usual black?

It is quite easy to see that she is of the same design as her sister but a deck taller with a panorama (?) beneath the bridge and lifeboats raised in davits above the boat deck.

                      .

That is correct, a yellow funnel with three white stripes. Bergenskes older cruiseship M/Y Stella Polaris had the same colour on her funnel, but without the three White stripes.

Thank you so much: even though I have probably seen it many times before, I had never given it any thought before now. I learn something new each day.

She entered the hurtigrute sailings Bergen-Kirkenes-Bergen 22. January 1955.

                            1. April 1970 she was trensferred to Meteor Cruises AS and so did leave the hurtigruten.
