  • Sailing Hjørundfjorden with Nordlys - and on to Rørvik - autumn cruise 2012

    Part 1:
For some reason I haven't posted pictures yet from my autumn cruise Bergen - Rørvik with Nordlys in September, calling at Hjørundfjorden, in a fantastic weather. Well, never too late:

    Leaving Bergen in high moon.

The Askøy bridge in evening light.

Then under the Nordhordlandsbrua, sorry for the blur, but there was not much light.

The next morning, after passing Stad, on Vanylvsgapet, with Herøy and Runde ahead.

    Approaching Herøystraumen.

The Herøybrua looks so low, you wonder if you will pass beyond.

    Part 2:
    Continued:

    Brosundet, Ålesund, reflections.

Nordlys sailing on Hjørundfjorden, fully dressed.

    Blue water and majestic mountains.

The small viewing platform on deck four was crowded.

    Approaching Urke.

This magnificent fjord will be Hurtigrutens next autumns destination after the Geiranger season is over.
    To be continued.

            Part 5:
            Continued:

Trondheim, the next morning. Now we are in for some first class manouvering; backing in to the inner position at the pier.

Well done, Nordlys is finding her place behind southbound Trollfjord.

Time for a short walk to the Nidarosdomen (and then to some bakers shop...).

Happily I wont spend as much time at Munkholmen as poor old Griffenfeld did...

Trondheimsfjorden in a wonderful September weather.

            Stokksundet, always exciting.
            To be continued.

Hjørundfjorden seems to be a really good choice for Hurtigruten. And what a splendid weather, makes me long for the autumn!
Was the boat seen in picture #3:1 used as a tender to get the passengers ashore from NL?

                Part 6:
                Continued:

Kjeungskjæret lighthouse, always a popular view.

Wind mills along the coast of Trøndelag.

In the middle of Stokksundet with Stokksundbrua.

                Leaving Stokksundet.

                Leaving Stokksundet, Rørvik next.

Evening on Folla in the last light of day. Folla has not always been as friendly as this....
Since many of our members are excellent photographers and technically interested: These pix were taken with a Canon EOS 5 Mk III camera and a 4/17-40 mm lens, my favourite lens which I use for 95-96 % of my pictures. For the remaining percents I use either a 4/24-105 or a 4/70-200 USM IS II lens.
                Thank you for looking.

Yes, it is a local sightseeing boat chartered for this purpose.

Sigve these are fantastic photos - obviously beautiful weather, but some really different views too. I love the 'Down Town' sign too!!

Re Hjørundfjord, Ombugge said at the time that the announcement was made that it was stunningly beautiful - he's right - but there again he usually is.

                    Thanks for sharing.
                    Cheers,

                    Mark.

Terrific trip report Sigve, perfect pictures of the perfect weather and, following on from Ombugge’s recommendations, the best possible introduction for me to a fjord I’ve never visited. I guess we all want to do so now, onboard a hurtigrute of course!
