A Bergen-based group wants to bring the ship home to it's birth-city, Bergen:

I just keep wishing and hoping. I see there are enquiries from Sweden and the Netherlands, and even if Norway cannot come to her rescue at least that would bring the Kong Olav back nearer home, and she would be saved.

                  Dear all,

Kong Olav may have been saved, and I repeat "may have been saved"... despite a lot of negative - and positive - commentary on the web.

The reason why I say may have been saved is that it's still a long way to go before the ship enters Norwegian territorial water. Letter of intent will hopefully be signed within the next few days, but things such as the final sales price, and the actual condition of the ship may change everything.

We hope and we pray each day for the positive outcome of this venture.

I keep crossing my fingers. This massive interest of the media will be helpful in the future to succeed some problems, so this was a very important and brilliant work.

A lot of positive PR, but I can see on other Norwegian forums that they are extremely skeptical to the King returning home.

It's still a LONG way to go, and there are a lot of pieces to be placed in the right order. I know the Bergen group is working really hard on the project now.

Slightly off topic and maybe everyone else on the planet knows this but I discovered a few days ago from the radio that ....

Kong Olav V was born in the English county of Norfolk!

This is confirmed on his Wikipedia page.

The good news is that the Kong Olav is probably now saved!

The owner has accepted the buyer's offer, and an inspection is due to take place during first week of October.

There are naturally still a lot of things to be done, and there are a lot of obstacles ahead... but she is closer to salvation than she has ever been before.

Finally, after 5 years on and off, working to save the ship... it fainally pays off, not an easy task to say at least.

But, imagine the day she enters Norwegian territorial waters again.... around 50 years after being launched in Bergen!

What an amazing day that will be - for many: for all Norwegian seafarers, for all war-sailors and for the Norwegian Royal Family.
