Honestly, i don't believe that there is a possibility to get any efford by signing a petition and give it to someone we think could be responsible (see the story of Maxim Gorkiy). At the end of the day we need a person wanting to buy the ship and a person wanting to sell the ship.

Maybe it is another possibility to work something out the other way:
Why did the owner not yet sell the ship for scrapping? Steel prices were incredible high until some months ago.
Does the owner have plans with the ship or is he speculating to get a higher price selling the ship to some enthusiasts?
    Is the ship offered anywhere?
What do the ship specialists think, would i cost to restore such a ship a) as a veteran ship b) according to SOLAS to come back in regular service again?

Maybe if we answer some of these questions it is possible for us to bring some people in contact to each other...

A small boat named "King Olav"

The Norwegian country singer Sputnik recently vacationed in Thailand and had a boat trip in Pattaya.

Here is the website of that boat: http://www.mvkingolav.com/.

Wonder where they got the idea of naming it like that?

Strange.... very strange, but I think the background may be quite simple: maybe some ex-Norwegian behind the company.

Take a look at their VIDEO-page (from the navigation menu): the one who christened the vessel was Ragnar Thorseth.

Then, take a look at "Useful Links" which mostly covers Norwegian and Scandinavian links in Thailand: a clear indication of an expatiate I would guess.

I do not completely agree, because the more people sign the petition, the more an investor will see that the public wants this ship saved: it also creates knowledge and spreads the word of her plight. Keeping it in silence, will most likely not attract any kind of investor. Well, that is at least the way I see it. Anyway, don't worry, with the very low number that has already signed up: there is no danger any investor will be attracted at all...

The owner, does not want to sell the ship to scrappers, have not made any plans for the ship, and have not published the ship for sale. I don't think he is speculating on enthusiasts ever picking up the tab in a while... remember, the owner is extremely tight-lipped about this ship and does not like much attention about it at all.

Not that I'm no expert at all, but I have been on board from the keel to the main mast and probably the only Scandinavian to step on board for the past 6-9 years, and I say it will be a serious lift (economically) to get her into sailing condition, and a lot less getting her into some kind of static state.

But time is running and she still sits where she was left many years ago, with no ongoing maintenance.

To stimulate the collection of new and additional signatures on the Petition to Save Kong Olav mentioned above, I will try to add some new images from her lay-up each time the list gets a new signature...

Since E kindly added her signature to the Petition, I will add some images taken during the ship inspection on July 1st 2007: these images were all taken down below at B-deck:

                        Thank you, Jan-Olav,

for these pictures - and the other pictures on page 1 !
I must say that I have taken many pictures that very day, 02.02.2008, from your pictures about KONG OLAV from the PC ... - et helt fotoalbum ... It is your copyright, javel, but these pictures are only for me, perhaps the last remembrance for me of this ship, I will never forget!

                        With my best regards

Ship inspection on board 'Kong Olav' in Burma

This is another link to our old forum that most certainly deserves to be mentioned here. I am sure some of our newer members may not have yet found this thread.

Jan-Olav's inspection of 'Kong Olav' in Burma 2007.

I just found the above mentioned page buried deep inside the old forum. The thread contains fantastic pictures of this historic ship. It is indeed like stepping back in time ten years when you look at these images. It is such a shame to see this wonderful vessel just sitting idle, slowly deteriorating. She most certainly deserves better. Jan-Olav, I salute you for making that trip and for providing us with such a fantastic photographic record of it.

So again, if you have not previously signed the petition to try and help save this ship, please do so. It does not take a minute!

Jan-Olav, may I suggest that the 'Kong Olav' thread on this forum be made 'Sticky', so that it always remains nearer the top of the list.
