She is out on yard trials again:
And just now she met Nordstjernen in Vartdalsfjorden. (Bound for Volda):

I see some reports in some local media and on nrk.no that she also met the Lofoten yesterday or the day before.

Would be a great shot to have these two ships side by side to see the difference in size and design.

But, as many people say, Roald Amundsen is not "a Hurtigrute"... but a ship of the company "Hurtigruten".

I had an interesting experience on an innocent voyage with Lofoten; all went well until we hit the storms halfway up the coast; the Captain reacted like lightning, up the stairs to ask for a course to Alta. It was granted readily and by then my porthole was constantly awash. There were some ships ahead of Lofoten but the Viking Sky had to remain steady(!) to discharge many passengers by helicopter to dry land and with little or no engine power it looked rather grim. However , all was OK. The Captain of Lofoten probably had a glass of grog in his hand as the course was set to Alta.
Alta was town I really liked - soft snow drifting down, townsfolk sussing us out, peaceful and well kept. Nothing like a safe anchorage away from the seas. I would love to visit the head of the fjord with its high walls. Maybe one day....

Glad you got to see Alta too, nari, and that you had a much safer time in sheltered waters instead of battling the heavy seas.

Thanks, pakarang. It was a messy time off the west coast, what with a cruise ship losing all engines and wandering aimlessly in the rough seas, plus rather anxious crew and captain on Lofoten as the seas increased steadily but the pax did not have to be airlifted. My impression of Alta was very positive; a tidy town blanketed in snow, several sea going yachts moored safely, an icy/snowy wharf but all went well. My admiration of the Norwegian attitude to risks as part of the "fun" of living in Norway says a lot about their calm and logical approach to the sea and its tempers.

Trouble with a lot of the technology being put on board. I know exactly how it is, still working on my own worlds-first vessel with nothing off the shelf... everything is custom made, even computer software is custom made. Absolutely nothing is standard.

That is understandable, but why not inform the passengers earlier? Many are already on their way to Hamburg, or already there to be one or two days in Hamburg before the trip. They have booked hotel rooms and train or flight tickets and learn two days before that the tour is canceled.

This is really a bad crisis management from Hurtigruten. It is not the first tour of the Roald Amundsen is canceled.
            with kind regards,
            Joachim

              From smp.no today:
The delivery of MS Roald Amundsen from Kleven Verft is again delayed

The plan is for the ship to go from Tromsø on 3 July, not from Hamburg on June 27.

( Vikebladet ) The expedition ship MS Roald Amundsen is on Tuesday delivered by quay at Kleven Verft.

For a couple of wicked sides, the yard stated that the ship was scheduled to go its first trip from the German harbor town on Thursday this week, in two days.

Communication manager at Kleven, Lillian Haddal, is very word-of-mind when we call Tuesday morning.

              - There is a press release from us in the evening or tomorrow early, the only thing Haddal wants to say.

Kleven Verft has appointed the delivery of the expedition ship MS Roald Amundsen by several raids.

The first trip should actually go from Lisbon on May 17 and then from Hamburg on May 30.

In April, it was so clear that the ship was not ready in time, and that the Hurtigruten had to cancel the cruise.

Communication manager in Hurtigruten, Rune Thomas Ege, did not have time to talk when we called Tuesday morning, but just before 11.30 he sent an e-mail to Vikebladet Vestposten:

              - We are all in the effort with MS Roald Amundsen. During the weekend, work on the last details on board has not gone as fast as we had been counting on. It means divergent that we have to adjust the plans for the maiden voyage.

Ege also writes that it was never an alternative to put an unfinished ship into operation and rather not an alternative to cancel the maiden voyage.

              - We have adjusted the plan for the first trip in the city, and start a few days later in Tromsø, write Rune Thomas Ege.

The plan is for the ship to depart from Tromsø on Wednesday 3 July, not from Hamburg on June 27. The trip then goes north to the North Cape, Kirkenes and the Russian border, before the ship saw the course south along the coast and ends in Hamburg as planned.

After the Vikebladet Vestposten knows, the passengers who had booked a trip from Hamburg, are now offered to join when the ship leaves Tromsø a little wider later.

MS Roald Amundsen has room for 500 guests and the first cruise is as good as fully booked.

Apparently, they are doing a "practice landing" with their Zodiac's to a local camping site that was made available to them.

RA already cancelled one call to Kristiansund, but I guess she will call us on the next scheduled cruise call, 8. July.
Then RA will be on her way from Brønnøysund to Molde, and I must honestly say, I don't know why they stop in Kristiansund, because they arrive 08:00 and depart 10:00.
Can't imagine what the passengers might manage to get out of those two hours.

Maybe there will be arranged overland tour from Kristiansund to Molde. Atlantic Road maybe??

                  Of course, you are correct.
Never thought about that overland tour, but that is what Hurtigruten is experts on doing on regular southbound sailings.

Has anyone seen the LATEST schedule for the ship?

I especially think about the cruise along Norwegian coast.

Apparently, the Norwegian Seaman's Union is filing a legal complaint against her operators for this Norwegian cruise, with foreign crew in violation of Norwegian law.
