Most of you who know me also know my view on lines in ship design.
But I have to say, never did I belive SPITSBERGEN would be such a beautiful little vessel
And who else have such a perfect photography platform than our Captain. Nice pictures, good job (as always).

Absolutely. Wonderfully expressed, Sterkoder, and may I add my name and appreciation to your sentiments.

I do hope that next year I will get around to seeing this ship and perhaps travelling aboard her in regular service before she begins her Explorer adventures. But meanwhile I do feel delighted that it was aboard a dear traditional ex-hurtigrute in the Azores this spring that I got to see ferries there, and the communities that as Atlantida she was built to serve. It's a special connection. Now, seeing pakarang’s images, the familiar livery with the red band like a friendship bracelet, feels rather emotional.

Mind you, having my moving platform on the right side or place in the fjord, is not something that happens every day. Most days, I'm as far from the ships as possibly can be.

This time however, I was finally in luck - as well as having brought along the camera to work.

I can't even begin to understand how you dare to leave home to go to work without your camera ;-)

Ultimate carelessness I would call it, but sometimes, carrying the gigantic bag (bigger than me, but then, I'm not a large person either).... is a pain in the neck.

Historic pictures like these are the heart of this forum. Good to have members, who are able and motivated, not only to be at the right place and the right time, but also to share their experiences with us! Thank you so much for this, Kristian!

Very kind of you, and thank you very much. Sometimes, I'm lucky with my "shippod" but most of the time, I'm on the wrong side when they sail past.

Lovely Spitsbergen story in the papers today.

                            http://www.dagbladet.no/nyheter/da-h...-hjem/66167646

Captain had to turn back because of weather, couldn't easily park in Tromsø, so he took everyone to 'his' fjord, picked up his family and they all seem to have had a wonderful time!! Even the Whales and Killer Whales put on a show for them.
                            Cheers,

                            Mark.
