I tried to find out some news about Andrea or about Monet, but obviously every activities are frozen because of the difficulties inside the Hypo-Alpe-Adria bank. I even suppose that there is no responsible person for the two ships inside the bank. I wonder, if they receive any maintenance at all...

Harald Jarl images - and a video of the engine room on board?

Is it true as some people mentions, that this ship was capable of doing 20 knots at full speed?

This is my album, sorry, nothing new. But I scanned some old photos today.
I remember someone asked the chief about the high speed of 20 knots. He said the machine will explode, if they try it.

No, taken in October 2001, the last roundtrip.

              Hi Eilun
Super pictures and a nice record of the occasion.
I see she is flying the Tromso kommune flag from the jackstaff while alongside but - not in correct thread - where is hurtigruten?

              Regards

Except for interesting images, I'm thinking about what mess those two guys are making with their black paint in that life boat.
But what the hey...., it's the last roundtrip, so who cares...

I see she is flying the Tromso kommune flag from the jackstaff
Isn't that just because her home port is Tromsø? Can't tell you where this is though...

These pictures must be from arrival Bergen, at Dokkeskjærskaien where they used to dock during the 90'ies until the new terminal at Nøstet was completed.

Yes it is - as seen in this photo taken from Trollfjord in 2003....

...though I see from this enlargement of another photo that they were down to just one phone box by then!

Yes, for some reason the number of phone boxes have rapidly decreased over the last decade

And indeed, the ship is still in the same location where we docked on that fatal April 3, 2009 and the ITF came onboard. We docked at the entrance of the port but a few months ago they moved her deeper into the dock. One of the reasons why I keep an eye on her is that as soon as the ship starts sailing again I will surely do anything I can to retreive the salary I missed. I am speaking about more than 5000 dollars here, so worth it to keep focused on that.
The ship probabily hadn't been maintained well since her refit (which was a cosmetic one). She did get a new satelite and radar system though. Other than some repaint to keep her look good, not much has been done. That became very clear during that last Antarctic season when we found out major issue with the engine, watertight door etc. I remember the bridge's log which had red comments about engine problems on a lot of pages. I am very sure that we would not have survived a major storm in the Drake if it would have occured. In fact twice we left Antarctica half a day early to escape heavy weather. With rolls up to 42 degrees there were times I asked myself what would happen if we really would have very high seas. In fact, I took the pictures of the damage because the sailors asked me. They probabily knew much more than me what was going on.
I have no idea how they calculated the asking price of the Andrea. It must have something to do with the amount of debts the company still has towards Hypo Alpe-Adria bank. Otherwise I see no reason for the very high, unrealistic price.
Thank you ever so much, Kristine!!! Reading your posts I intially became depressed that I'd never be able to sail to Antarctica on my beloved ship. BUT - then again, where there's a question about money there's always hope: As long as she is of some value (indebted) AND is maintained for prospective buyers, AND is properly docked, I'll still sleep at night.

Will you keep us updated? Long ways to travel from Norway just to check if she's still at the dock...

In the right edge, you can see a wheelhouse, and a orange hull. The wheelhouse is either "Beiarn","Rødøy","Rørstad" or "Hulløy", all 4 owned by Saltens Dampskibsselskap.
The orange hull could be the HSC "Børtind"(1979), which was owned by SDS to.
The orange hull is a SDS HSC, but I'm not sure it is "Børtind"

Your sharp observation would then be used as a confirmation that this image was indeed taken in the port of Bodø, and not Lerwick, Shetland Islands, as posted with the image.

Shall we go out purchase us a ship?

A friend of mine sent me these two links which shows that the former Harald Jarl is on offer... not sure if this is an old listing or a recent listing though.

As said before in this forum, she's not exactly priced to sell.

And maybe I'm cynical but I find the statements "It will meet MARPOL and Solas 2010 with minor work" and "+ 3 Mill should be for conversion to get new SOLAS 2010 if required for new owner purpose" somewhat optimistic.

I love this ship but fear we will not see her in commercial service again. Moored hotel or restaurant are much more likely prospects.
