  • The maiden voyage of the SERENISSIMA Split - Venice

    Dear all,

This will be the thread with my personal images from the maiden voyage of the "Serenissima" back in April 2013. The trip started at Split in Croatia and ended in Venice, Italy. During this cruise, the ship called at Kotor in Montenegro, Dubrovnik in Croatia and finally at Korcula in Croatia.

When it comes to the story of the ship, I expect no further introduction is needed, but if you still want to read more about her history, please visit the ship's own thread here.

There is a lot of images, so please be patient. This report is not only showing images from the ship but also from the ports we visited.

For more information on cruises with the Serenissima, please visit their website: http://www.serenissima-cruises.com/

A cruise on this beautifully restored vessel can undobtedly be recommended: she is a true gem in the age of large mega-liners, and a gentle blow from the past.

    Welcome on board!

The nights before the cruise, I stayed at Radisson Blue in Split. This is a hotel that I can truly recommend: it was nothing but excellent.

The hotel is pretty self-sufficient with restaurants and a fantastic spa, with all kinds of treatments and pools!

The outdoor restaurant and bar was closed off - or not in use is the more correct term, during my stay. The weather in April is nice, but it is not the warmest high season.

But it still provides a great place to take pictures.

The only thing I would like to change with this amazing hotel, is to have a room on the other side: with a better view of the sea:

Thank you “King of Hotel Photography” ! I'll most certainly be back tomorrow...
Such a good feeling to be booked on Serenissima for next Autumn, although not your itinerary. (I had considered the Adriatic cruises but dates and availability of suitable single cabin didn’t fit in so conveniently by the time I felt able to make plans.)

The hotel in Split looks spectacular and so very "you". How good that those lights were on even though they weren’t using the terrace. Love those giant pebbles too!

They actually switched on the lights upon my request - the friendliness and service attitude of this hotel far surpasses a lot of what I have experienced in this corner of the world. Five star all the way.

17 pictures? From the hotel? We are looking forward to a long thread? But then we are also good friends of the Serenissima. Lucky us. So we stay tuned!
                Regards; Sigve.

I'm so sorry to post so many images. Do I sense disappointment?

Disappointment? No, far from it. A certain impatience, yes. But I'll behave and wait for the Serenissima pictures. In the meantime, I find your Split pictures very interesting. And how I envy you your voyage!

As promised, a walk around town in Split before the cruise - an amazing city I certainly like to visit again in the future.

Starting with an image for Joakim:

Some images from the beautiful city walk follows: the weather was so perfect, not too hot, not too cold, and deep blue skies.... could not have asked for more.

Bought a ticket to enter the tower of this church:

                        The bells were really old:

But this stopped me dead in my tracks - my fear of heights prevented me from making it to the top:
