  • Which Hurtigruten ship?

I know you regulars here like a challenge, but I'm not sure this is going to test you as much as Where is Hurtigruten now? (great topic).

As promised in the Andrea::Harald Jarl topic, here is a scan from the book "2500 Miles on the Norwegian Coastal Steamer" by Erling Welle-Strand, (English translation), 14th Impression, 1981, ISBN 82-90103-07-7 (original date not given but probably 1960s to early 1970s from the look of some of the people in the photos).

Here is the photo but can anyone identify the ship?

I know it's not Harald Jarl because I can see differences. But that's where my knowledge stops. I don't know the other Hurtigruten well enough.

    Over to the experts.

Very nice to have you onboard, Clipper........

I think the ship on the picture is "Håkon Jarl" northbound from Bodø

To compare it - I think this is a postcard from Håkon Jarl.

        Thanks both.

So I guess that nails it - Håkon Jarl .

I agree on that being "Håkon Jarl", and here are a link that could be helpful for those trying to identify any ship in the fleet.

She is still alive, now as a Floatel in Antwerp, Belgium:

There is even a Birdeye view of her.

WARNING:For the true Hurtigruten lovers; DON'T OPEN the link above. You will be shocked at what happened to her.

I was expecting worse. I wonder is she still afloat or does she sit on a plinth below the waterline like the Af Chapman in Stockholm?

Maybe one of the "designers" of these new cruise boxes had his first exercises here. At least better to see her so than scrapped...

Maybe we can turn this into an informal test, who knows which ship this is?

                            That must be "Polarlys".
The other two suggested has two propellermarkings painted on the hullside.
