Another extension of the contract did not come as a surprise to me.

....me, too. Funny for me is, that they always make it for some weeks, not for a longer term. I think they want to be flexible if someone is interested for charter or purchase the ship. Very optimistic in these days....

...Hurtigruten is again asking for more money...

            source: NRK - magazine

            Publisert 16.07.2009 07:54

Hurtigruten won tax case in the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has pronounced judgment in the
lawsuit concerning taxes on profits from the sale of
Nor-Cargo ASA shares. Hurtigruten ASA won on all
points and was also acknowledge full reimbursement of
legal costs incurred. Net profits above book value of
the shares amounted to NOK 282 million with an
estimated tax of NOK 79 million. The tax costs were
booked in 2008 as per ruling made by Hålogaland Court
of Appeals. The ruling has no cash cash effect for
the company. Hurtigruten refer to previous
announcements to the stock exchange regarding this
              matter.

I wonder if this is the Australian agreement for a long term charter of Midnatsol, Trollfjord or Finnmarken which we mentioned a while ago?

Saw just now on the news here in Norway that the Hurtigruten stocks had risen 16,75%.....

That must be really good news.

And THAT is due to National Geographic and Trygve Hegnar...

Financial heavyweight Hegnar is now the largest shareholder of HR. That is both good and bad - he'll probably soon be member of the board and then bring about changes that could move control from north to south.

According to this article, NG is becoming a partner at HRG.... BUT... it doesn't say anything about the details and there is no official press release from NG as I have been able to find yet.

Hurtigruten's fast ferries operations cease at year-end 2009

Hurtigruten ASA currently owns five fast ferries
after the divestment of the ferries in Troms and
Nordland County and the fast ferries in Nordland on 5
January 2009. The remaining fast ferries operations
cease at year-end 2009 when Veolia Transport Nord
takes over the fast ferry routes Tromsø-Finnsnes-
                            Harstad.

Hurtigruten's remaining fast ferries will be sold or
rented out. MV "Fjordprinsessen" and MV "Vågsfjord"
will be sold to Torghatten Nord AS for respectively
NOK 9.5 million and NOK 7.5 million. Transfer date
will be on 4 January 2010 and the transaction will
have no considerable accounting gains or losses.
Hurtigruten has signed a letter of intent with a
Greek company regarding the divestment of
                            MS "Fjorddronningen II".

MS "Fjordkongen" and MS "Fjorddronningen" have been
rented out to Veolia Transport Nord AS on a bareboat
charter to be used on the route Tromsø-Finnsnes-
Harstad. MS "Fjordkongen" will be rented out until 20
February 2010 and MS "Fjorddronningen" until 20 April
2010. Hurtigruten will thereafter seek to divest the
                            two fast ferries.

USA has sent a request to several ship owners/companies world wide for passenger vessels to sail to Haiti to help out as hotel vessels for rescue workers after the huge earthquake.
Hurtigruten ASA has answered the request in a positive way, and when time comes, they are prepared to take one of the hurtigrute vessels out of the coastal express and sail her to the area.
                              Don't know which ship yet.

It will be interesting to watch, how they will put that together... a lot of people won't get the ship they booked...

                                19.01.2010 09:44 newsweb.no:
In an article today, January 19 2010, Aftenposten
refers to Hurtigruten's booking development for the
Norwegian coast for the first quarter of 2010. The
company confirms that the booking figures for the
first quarter 2010 shows 129.000 cruise nights as per
January 15. This is an increase of 45 per cent
compared to bookings for first quarter 2009,
registered by same date last year.

Could be a good job for Doulos, Hope II, and a lot of the other outsourced vessels, to go to Haiti...
