    You can find the explanation in this article:
    International requirements for RoRo ships that also carries more than 400 passengers have changed. To comply with these requirements Hurtigruten would have to reconstruct the ships with four bulkheads or reduce the number of passengers below 400.
    Instead of that they now artificially reduce the capacity for cargo and cars to not to fall in the category of RoRo ships.

      I don't quite follow that article. How come that Nordkapp is modified while the sister Nordnorge will not be?

                Hurtigruten cancels all calls to Mehamn port for the next 8 months, as the dock is deemed unsafe for the big ships to use.

                  Hurtigruten is refusing to pay port charges in many ports, and are met with threats of not being permitted to dock to port captains taking arrest in the ships if they do not pay...

                    I've noticed this also in comments in the German forum, however the history of this struggle in not clear to me.
                    Is it because of hugely increasing charges?
                    Isn't Hurtigruten obliged to use the ports because of their Post and Cargo Contract by the government?
                    And if so, may the local authorities claim harbour charges?

                      I thought this was the case only in Geiranger, where HR has refused to pay charges because they don't make use of the harbour facilities. They won a case in the court about this.
                      Is this a problem elsewhere?

                        There is a disagreement betwen Hurtigruten and Norwegian harbours. Much money is involved, and HRG will not pay the costs. It's not only Geiranger.
                        Striden mellom Hurtigruten og havnene tilspisser seg. Samtidig som rederiet nekter ƒ¥ betale avgifter, truer havnene med ƒ¥ ƒ¸ke de samme avgiftene.

                                To calm our foreign audience, who might not catch this on web-tv, down a notch or two..., I don't think this is some kind of a hurtigruten program.
                                It's more like Mr. Truls here useing a hurtigrute to get his way around in coastal Norway to do things he have never done before, and to meet people somewhat away from the usual hurtigrute track.
                                But hey..., it's going to be a great series anyway, it's going to be some hurtigrute glimps, and a lot of Norwegia humor :-) :-)
