Re: Hurtigruten ASA - news and comments **2013 Bookings open**

      Hello All,

In case folks haven't spotted 2013 Norwegian voyages are now available for booking, both online and via booking centre (tho' only a few agents are able to do 2013 bookings and some others say you can't).
Prices, at least UK ones, seem to have gone up dramtically: one example for I class sole occupancy is, by my calculations nearly 40% up for cheapest early booking inc. 1893 Ambassador discount - itself reduced from 10% to 5% next year.
I've booked a round trip on Lofoten in March, hopefully to catch "Solar max" Nordlys after fantastic displays in January this year on Midnatsol (10 of 11 nights with a display).

Be pleased to hear of anyone else voyaging then.

      Fair winds & weather,

      Richard

The big boss at Hurtigruten collected a salary of 12.000.000 kroner last year, despite the bad results in the company:

Hurtigruten ASA will try out fjord-sail in Hjørundfjorden this summer.

The main reason is that it has been more expensive this year, sailing to Geiranger.

          Money talks.......

Good idea. Hjorundfjorden is the most beautiful fjord in Norway and much less visited than Geiranger. Let them get some competition.

My proposal is a slow trip all the way to Bjorke with a possibility to visit the boat builders in Bjorkedalen and a stop at Oye.
For those who want to see more, a visit to the hotel in Oye :

Followed by bus tour from Oye back to Aalesund via Norangsdalen:

to Hellesylt, then Standa, Sykkelven and ferry across Storfjorden. That would be about right to re-join Hurtigruta there.

For those who HAVE to see Geiranger, a tour by ferry from Hellesylt to Geiranger and via Trollstigen to Aandalsnes and on to Molde should be possible within a reasonable time table.

              Hurtigruten CEO Olav Fjell resigns.
Fjell told the board on Monday that he want to resign as CEO.
He has a six months notice and the final date will be announced later.

A serious question to whom might know the correct answer:

If someone has something they want to sell in all the souvenir shops on board the entire fleet, items that has much to do with Hurtigruten, who do one contact then...., in the Hurtigrute system??
I take it you don't go all the way to the top??

And since the deadline to apply for this position is midnight Friday 1. June, I suspect someone really want this guy.
But ok, if Trygve Hegnar (chief of board) is pleased, so should we

It is official, Hurtigruten will be trying out Hjorundfjorden already this autumn.

                            And more today: http://www.smp.no/nyheter/article506963.ece

There is one difference, the destination and holding place in Hjorundfjorden???

This sounds for me not very attractive. Spending six hours in such small villages. That means, a bus trip is nearly a must. I don't like being "forced" to do an excursion.
The trip to Geiranger is four hours more sailing. That's why i do a Hurtigruten trip.

If I understand correctly (which is not sure, because I'm reading the Google-translated version of the article ), the idea is to do this trip later in the season, after the sailing to Geiranger has stopped, is that right? If so, then I'd rather do this sailing than "nothing". And a 4 hour-stop (I believe it's 4 hours and not 6, from 11.30 to 15.30) is a great opportunity for a quiet lunch and a nap!
