MS Thomson Majesty - Lifeboat Drill Accident - 5 dead

Breaking news on the BBC :

Five crew members have died when a lifeboat fell into the sea during a drill, while the MS Thomson Majesty was docked in the port of Santa Cruz de la Palma in the Canary Islands.

The accident happened during a routine safety drill at about 12:00 GMT. Three others were also hurt as the lifeboat fell into the sea, trapping occupants.
No passengers were involved in the accident, local reports say.
Tragic in itself but also goes to show that abandoning ship is a hazardous activity even if the mother ship is not in danger.

For me this reinforces something I read in the wake of the Costa Concordia disaster - the best lifeboat is often the ship you're already in.
