VIKING SKY drifting with engine problems

Viking Sky of Viking Ocean Cruises has reported engine problems and have started drifting at HUSTADVIKA, Norway. There is a severe storm in the area, with strong winds and strong showers of snow/slate/rain.

She has apparently been able to anchor now, but are starting to evacuate 1300 passengers to shore.

The only photo I have been able to find so far: https://www.rbnett.no/nyheter/2019/0...a-18722545.ece

Apparently, she has now been able to anchor just off shore, and an evacuation of her guests has commenced.

An evacuation in that kind of weather is not a decision who would have been easy to make for the Captain, but knowing the circumstances, they have chosen to do so.

I hope and pray for everyone involved that the evacuation will be safe.

Looks like they have managed to get some power up and running, she is seen now (on marinetraffic) making 5 knots AWAY from land.

Using marinetraffic, I can see there are several vessel on the way right now.

Coast Guard vessel Njord, a tug called Vivax, and quite a few offshore ships: Edda Fauna, Ocean Art, Siem Symphony and Tromsø Arcturus.

She has stopped again, so the problem with propulsion seems to be NOT fixed as of yet.

First evacuees have been transferred to shore by helicopter.

Freight ship "Hagland Captain", that is on scene to help "Viking Sky", seems to be in trouble and is listing.
Let's hope that this wont evolve to a second emergency.

I've been watching NRK, and there were some dramatic pictures of the ship Hagland Captain, which also put out a mayday.

Photos I took of Viking Sky visiting Edinburgh in July last year can be seen here..
