A bit of exaggeration as usual. Below is from Channel News Asia:

SINGAPORE: A Vietnamese-registered cargo vessel damaged one of its hatches after it collided with another vessel in the waters off Singapore on Saturday.

The Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore said the collision occurred about 3.4 kilometres south of Sisters Islands.

MPA said there was no oil spill or injury to crew members. Traffic in the Singapore Strait was also not affected.

A YouTube video showed the collision between the Vietnamese-registered cargo vessel "MV Thuan My" and a Marshall Islands-registered bulk carrier "MV Beks Halil".

Following the damage, the Vietnamese ship was shifted to the Raffles Reserved Anchorage for repairs.

The bulk carrier had no significant damage and continued its journey.

I did wonder about the claim that she was sinking - mind you, would not have surprised me if the larger ships bulbous bow (ramming tool) had done some damage below the water line.

Tell you one thing though, i don't think i would have wanted to be on the smaller ship, i hope the crew all packed plenty of spare underwear!

IS this vessel back in service again?

And what is the latest on the drifting rat-infested ship with the difficult to remember name.... did she sink? (LUBLOV ORLOVA)

I think I read somewhere that the emergency beacon had been deployed and that they presumed the ship sank...

Yes, thank you Mark. Interesting to read about the repairs. Expensive accident. Always a lot more cost involved in putting things like that right, compared to what it would have cost to fit those spaces out originally.

Interesting to watch the video clips from inside the ship, not often you get to see such damage from the inside. Big hole!

Did you all see this recent collision in the Straits of Singapore?

There is a hole lot of "honking the horn"... as if that would help in the collision.

An almost impossible to believe accident: http://www.vesselfinder.com/news/116...mber_246220195

What is the probability that a tiny rowing boat is hit by a ship in the nearly "empty" part of the Indian Ocean??? Very small!!!

In another forum the question of whether the rowing boat had a light or not was raised? Only of legal interest. Nobody look out of the bridge windows anyhow. (Although at Lookout is still required by law)

More practically, did he have a Radar Reflector and AIS? Then he will show up on one or more of the numerous screens on the bridge, which may get somebody's attention.

Do I detect a note of irony in the use of "may"?
But how fortunate that other vessels were in the area.

IN the beginning, they reported a small fire... but when she came to port, it looked a whole lot more serious:
