    A lucky escape indeed.

    A young woman must have had luck on her side last night after surviving falling overboard from a ferry 20 miles off the coast.

      Fire onboard MS Nordlys outside Aalesund.

      Hovedredningssentralen for Sør-Norge (The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre for Southern Norway) reports that MS Nordlys is on fire outside Ålesund.

              Smoke emitted from the engine room ventilators aft on on the funnel:

              Whether because they had not been closed at all, or to get rid of the smoke in the engine room after the fire was under control is not possible to say for sure. Pictures on smp.no appears to indicate the first.

              Rescue helicopter was in the air:


              Two life boats and some MOB-boats were tied up at the guest harbour for visiting pleasure crafts:

                  Several other vessels were there to assist.
                  A fishing boat that happened to be in the vicinity:

                  On station in Aalesund for the Coastal Administration.

                      It was now possible to get a little closer to Skansekaia:


                      The smoke had turned from black to light gray by 1130 hrs.:

                      Indicating that the fire had subsided and were under control at this time.

                      There were also signs that the Emergency lights were still on:
