But more than any other yacht, this may be the true CV Yacht... re-christened to Norway II off course:

    Lurssen's 247' "Northern Star"

New vessels competing to become the first private CV Yacht....

These two candidates may not be large enough for us though...

The design is irritating me, because without the possibility to compare the size (by having people aboard or beside another vessel) they look much much smaller than they are. In my opinion, the queenship 74' is the favourite, because the interior design is much more practical and more cosy.

But you are right. Too less cabins for our family...

Do we have anyone who could maybe make a drawing or something, of a newly renovated "Kong Olav", what she might look like if she was restored fully as a yacht?

I would love to see an artists rendering of Kong Olav as a luxurious fully restored CV Yacht....

Wow. What a great idea. You just have to come down south to my place to continue my job for two weeks...!!

Or talk to Sterkoder, if he also can make some job replacement possible. Or hit him on his knee, so he has to stay at home two more weeks for recovery...

Honestly, never thought about that, maybe i find a good idea...

But with Andrea (ex HaraldJarl) we should have less work...

Since this is more or less the "yacht-thread" here is the link to a brand new blog on the Internet, which may grow in the future to something which could be fun to drop by occasionally.

See, Pakarang...this is where you and I are ultimately going to have a conflict. I can't seem to get into these modern looking James-Bond-like yachts.

You- modern, sleek. cutting edge technology.....
                      Me- classic, elegant, pretty.....

                      A designer's nightmare.

(Oh, well....may this be the greatest of our worries.....!)

Maybe we could put an X-bow on the Kong Olav during restoration?

Actually, that would be sacrilegious. I like modern, hi tech gadget items, but the ultimate would be to get all that whilst still preserving the historical look: almost like QM2. Old packaging but top modern technology in unison!

Heart attack coming on... these are some fantastic candidates to our CaptainsVoyage Yacht... (code named CVY).....

If we some day are going to make a splash, we could do it in one of these three (I'll do the Captaining, someone else do the galley duty or engine room duty)....:

Nordhavn 78 - World Traveler With European Style: PAE Announces Plans For 78 Foot Yacht

Or my favourite, my dream boat big time:

Affinity Yachts 90' Luxury Sportfish (Your Wife Called. She Said it's OK to Buy This Boat!).

If you are thinking of aquiring a yacht out of the ordinary, you should make contact with Espen Øino, a very successful norwegian naval arcitecht and designer, living in Monaco. He has designed a good handful of the worlds most spectacular yachts. He is very present on the list over the worlds 100 largest yaschts 2009. List here. OK, the link doesn't work; try The Power and Motoryachts list of the 100 largest yachts 2009.
Looking down the list at random, I can see no 4) Octopus (414 feet/126 m), 46) Madsummer (257 feet), and then no 52, 62 (Silver), 66, 71 (Skat), 78, 86 and 89 and may be I have missed one.
He is designing yachts for the great builders like Lürssen and Fincantieri. Last month it was known that he has designed the greates yacht of 2009 for Fincantieri. Link here. This yacht is 459 feet long (140 meters). In comparison, hurtigruta Finnmarken is 138 meters.
The following picture is of the yacht Queen M, (72 meters, today Queen K), built in 2004 at Lürssen, running trials in Oslofjorden. I was lucky to be invited onboard (but not allowed to take pictures). The owner was a japanese industrialist, who loved to cruise in slow tempo, and always brought a (classical) singer and a pianist to entertain his guests.
So, if you want a spectacular CV yacht, make a call to Espen Øino!
                            ---
                            Regards, Sigve.

                              Excellent Sigve... love that one!

If I ever were to get myself that one, I would give it a Norway (as in SS Norway) blue hull and take her on cruises to North Cape (special discount for CV family members off course... ).

On the more serious side, interesting to see the bridge is located on the lowest deck above the bow. Naturally, that would be good during anchoring, as you could keep an eye on the mooring gang whilst handling the bridge.
