The "Flid" is a veteran boat, so she wont be catching any whale All the flags and most of the boats were in Svovær because of the World Championship of Cod fishing.

Is that like the "World Series" in Baseball?? (Only American and Canadian teams allowed, although some of the best players are from Cuba, Central America and Japan)

Can "non-lofotinger" participate in the Cod fishing competition??

What method of catching is allowed??? What about if "Sunnmoringa" come in with their Factory Trawlers???

What if somebody catch a really BIIG fish, but it is not a COD??

                          Re: World's FISHING BOATS

There were people from all around the World, so yes, Sunnmøringa can participate Though a factory trawler probably wouldn't be accepted I think many people were in Svolvær only to drink and party. I've never met that many drunk people in one place in my life before. And since everything in Svolvær is along the docks, it couldn't be avoided that someone fell into the water. 4 drunk guys within a couple of hours fell into the water! A fifth one jumped after one of the four to help him. The Coast Guard and Redningsselskapet were in standby this weekend in case someone fell into the sea. There also were Securitas guards patroling on the docks to keep an eye on the people going back to their hotel or their boat.
I'm not sure what they do if somebody catch a really big fish, but I think they would get some type of attention anyway.

I notice that few of the boats in Svolvaer has fishing numbers. Are they all used for hobby fishing and whale watching??

That guy standing at the rail of the Nansen must be a real Viking. What was the temperature at the time???

                                Somewhat different climate.

Exploring, Drilling and Producing Oil and Gas offshore kills all live in the sea, right???

Well, go tell that to these guys who have ventured 65 n.miles out to sea to harvest from the rich bounty that exist around the Kikeh Field, off Sabah, East Malaysia:

Stop catching fish at their spawning grounds, (Lofotskreil) or when heading up the rivers, (Salmon) then there is the possibility that more fish would survive to maturity, or at least where until they are big enough to get caught by "Sunnmoringa" and their Factory Trawlers.
