    These are two wonderful shots of an impressive vessel.

    WAOW..... 121 meters long too! That is just 1.4 meters shorter than mine, but a whole lot cooler looking.

                Looking here for example, the "Main Class" line entry is interesting. It reads :

                Main Class: +1A1, SF, E0, DK(+), HL(2,8), Oilrec, Dynpos-AUTR
                Is there a "Rosetta Stone" for these abbreviations?

                  In your sample from FAR STAR, which is a fairly basic PSV, the following can be read:
                  +1A1 (Plus is a substitute for "Maltese Cross"): Built to highest class requirements
                  SF:Implies classification of stability and floatability
                  E0: Equipped to allow Engine (Control) Room to be unmanned for extended periods.
                  DK(+): Deck(s) strengthened for heavy cargo.
                  HL(2.8): Tanks for heavy liquids (Up to 2.8 Sp.g)
                  Oilrec: Equipped to handle and carry recovered Oil from spills.
                  Dynpos-AUTR: Dynamic Positioning system eqv. to IMO DP-2 class.

                  Here is abbreviation for FAR SAMSON, the world's most powerful tug cum complex CSV:
                  DNV +1A1, Tug, Supply Vessel Basic, SF, COMF-V(3)C(3), HELDK-SH, CRANE, DEICE, E0, DYNPOS-AUTRO, NAUTOSV(A), CLEAN DESIGN, DK(+), BIS, TMON
                  Now go figure.

                  Ah, thanks Ombugge. I was rather expecting the answer to involve the IMO. The existence of DNV-GL had somehow escaped me.

                In Whole-life Cost modelling, the final phase is usually "Disposal", which can yield either a +ve (cost) or a -ve (revenue).

                So which is it with offshore vessels - PSVs, AHTSs and the like. Is disposal typically an additional cost to the industry, or is some of the acquisition cost typically recovered.

                      Both vessels are designed by STX OSV Design type AH 12 CD.

                      KL.Saltfjord" and "KL.Sandefjord" is sistership.

                          Now in Tidewater colours, so this must be some time ago??

                        The former GRAMPIAN SPRITE stand-by vessel is sold to a company at Averøy near Kristiansund, the North Sea Marine AS.


                        The vessel got a new name, NSM SEA,...., and before you look at the next picture, please be sure to not drink any beverages so that there are milk, coffee or anything else that might come out of your nose
