    World's CAR FERRIES

CAR FERRIES from all over the world

How about making a special car-ferry thread for car ferries from across the world. I open the thread with this veteran carrying the name Eiksund.

The photo was taken at Saebø on January 24th 2009:

This is an old ferry, which I'm not sure is still alive or not: her name was Vågan and on this image, she sailed under the house flag of Vesterålens Dampskipsselskap (Steamshipcompany).

Back to Norway, I spotted this ferry all the way outside Trondheimsfjord on December 2nd 2008. I'm not sure of it's name and route, but it's an old design and I'm sure Sterkoder may have some information on her..

          Glenahulish

from Kylerhead (Isle of Skye) to Glenelg (Scottish mainland).

Now a community owned ferry because Skye has a bridge from the mainland. The Kylerhea Narrows has a fast flowing tidal race where standing waves are common when wind is running over tide.

Car ferry "Olav Duun" normally traffics between Lund and Hofles, but yesterday, she was just about to complete a dry dock in Ottersøy: March 18th 2009:

Kristiansund Mech. & Shipyard, and we see from left "Bolsøy", "Haram" and "Goma" on land...

                  Close-up of "Goma"

"Glutra". She runs on LNG, and as a gas-ferry she's better for the environment than the diesel ferries...

"Eira" at Kristiansund Mech. & Shipyard (NB! Only named KMS in future posts)

                    "Tustna"

"Bjørnsund". This ferry sails between Kristiansund and Averøy, but will be obsolete (maybe not the right word) from the fall of 2009 when the underwater road-tunnel opens....

"Bjørnsund" is one of the largest ferries the ferrycompany has, but is rather small compared to "Norwegian Jade"...

"Bjørnsund" passing under the Sørsundet bridge in Kristiansund. (For those of you who has been travelling with a hurtigrute, this is the bridge they sail under in and out of Kristiansund)

                          "Aure" in Kristiansund harbour

                          "Linge"

"Stordal" between Halsa and Kanestraum on the road between Kristiansund and Trondheim

"Svanøy" in Kristiansund on a nightstop on her voyage from northern Norway to Rogaland

                            Tired of ferries from Kristiansund....?
Well, let me take a breake and let other parts of our world come forward

Maaaaany cool ferries to study: and you got the prettiest one correct: nothing compares to Tingvoll....

Love some of the shots done above... I have myself traveled on quite a few of those at some point.

Thank you so much for that 'ferry-summary'!
