The word "kallio" is Finish and means "rock".

It seems that this spring is one of my most productive ever when it comes to professional quality photography, feels great.

I love that last shot in particular - reminds me of animage used on a totally different cruise-atlas a long time ago.

        A reverserd pakarang!

Saga Pearl II arriving in Cobh on Monday

I can't help but falling in love with Saga Pearl II... she is a lovely ship and I think I have seen Johanna Lumley's trip report on her at least 4 or 5 times if not more. I guess that says more about me than about the ship, but J. Lumley is a charming British woman it's really hard not to fall in love with.

FIrstly ...Love your photo Tommi...AND the caption! You know I had been thinking if we didn't have CVF any longer, I would think my GREATEST legacy, forever stored in the minds of every shipspotter who had ever stepped aboard the forum, would be THE PAKARANG VIEW. ...SO proud!

Secondly, regarding the question below your photo ...I don't think we ever had a "This is Finland"! Although my earliest and closest ties with the Nordic countries was with Sweden, my identity has become one with the wooden seagull avatar. She was derived from a photo taken during a free time outing during a conference in Helsinki. Digital era, so absolutely no excuse for lack of a Finland thread

The Viking Grace photo is so awesome - she looks so ... ehhh... imposing(?) from almost every angle, and especially from the pakarang-stand!

I also have to admit that I catch myself giggling over the phrase "pakarang-shot".....

The fire boat SLUKK II (Slukk means exstinguish, in English. A rather suitable name) finally turned the bow inward and made this shot possible.
The fate for this city icon has been unsure, but earlier this year, the vessel got quite an amount of money from the Riksantikvaren (Directorate for Cultural Heritage) to shine up the hull, change vital parts of the water pump system and a long overdue change of main engine.
Here's the SLUKK II Pakarang view for you, photographed yesterday during a real downpour of rain

Excellent Sterkoder... nearly the same image I took as well, earlier this year.

You may not have seen the images as of yet?
