I thought it might be interesting to share how the Norwegian Naby spends a billion Norwegian Kroner... (yes, you read correctly, a BILLION kroner...):

      http://www.klikk.no/teknologi/article356266.ece

".... as late as in 2002, the motor torpedo boats were refurbished for the price of one billion kroner, but now, they are at the scrap yard. The upgrade included new weapons, new navigation systems and new electronics. Additionally, around 200 million NOK were used on upgrading their Penguin-missiles, which had become unreliable after years of storage on board.

The upgrade was supposed to extend the ships working life till 2015.

The new frigates which the Norwegian Navy had ordered are also still not operational yet.

Some of the equipments on board will be reused on other ships.

The scrap merchant bought the ships for a total of 750 000 NOK, with an annotation that they were only to be destroyed.

The Norwegian Navy today only consists of 7 operational ships, whereof 3 are operational submarines (the other 3 submarines are non-operational); 4 out of a total of 6 mine hunters are the last four in operational status.

There are 3 new frigates, but they are not fully operational yet.

In addition there are 14 coast guard vessels.

Operational vessels in the Norwegian Navy:

      Year 1277: 279 ships

      Year 1890: 17 ships

      Year 1905: 35 ships

      Year 1916: 62 ships

      Year 1940: 61 ships

      Year 1960: 50 ships

      Year 1980: 80 ships

      Year 2008: 7 ships

Jepp...., W303 is KV "Svalbard". Nice pictures, and for that sub-tower of "Ula"...., well, it couldn't hurt much if someone gave that piece of steel a layer of black paint

A nearly perfect picture (just that one "K" is missing!)

Which will be stronger and lead the direction?
