USS "Leyte Gulf" (CG-55) is a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser in the United States Navy, moored at Grøtsund habor north of Tromsø on the mainland.
She came yesterday and will leave this afternoon.

The little coastal tanker "Kystbunker" was filling up the bunker tanks to the "Leyte Gulf" earlier today

WAOW.... love these new additions and my absolute favourite is the first image of the USS Leyte Gulf...

The image is really striking and super sharp... look at the heat from the exhaust!

Beautiful shot - such an atmosphere of "being there".

Another thing I like about these photos is how much the areas in the background has changed since I went to school in this beautiful city. When I rented a room at Bjørnebekken at the north end of the island, this was an area I passed every day when riding the bus to and from school.

                        Thank you for the comment.

There have been plenty of new houses/apartments since you lived there during your schooltime.
From Bjørnebekken and south it has been massively built in the last 15-20 years.
It is constantly being built in the area and hundreds of new apartments are being planned.
There is probably the area on Tromsøya which has the largest residential development currently.

Interesting indeed. As you say, back then nearly 30 years ago, it was just one place up on the north end, Bjørnebekken. Not much around there else... I seem to remember an outtake for gravel.

One day, I'll have to return to Tromsø and rent a car driving around to all the places I used to know, live and walk.

That is why they are gray.

Norwegian frigate "Helge Ingstad" inbound to Breivika harbor last friday.

"Thor Heyerdahl" came a few minutes later and moored outside of "Helge Ingstad"
